Journal Entry 1 by Soongsis2 on Sunday, July 04, 2004
Quite a humourous book in the best tradition of P.G. Wodehouse. The writing style and use of humour is remarkably similar. Synopsis from book: Thorne Smith's rapid-fire dialogue, brilliant sense of the absurb, and literary aplomb put him in the same category as the beloved P.G. Wodehouse. The Night Life of the Gods - the madcap story of a scientist who instigates a nocturnal spree with the Greek gods - is arguably his most sparkling comedic achievement.

Journal Entry 6 by Charomyces from Stittsville, Ontario Canada on Monday, September 19, 2005
Both Mrs Charomyces and I read this. It is a real slice of another time, surprising risque for something written in the 1920's and it certainly made me wonder, "Why has no one made a movie of this?" If you believe the introduction, Thorne Smith was apparently quite an influential comedic writer and I think I will be checking out the library to see if there is anything else. An American version of P.G. Wodehouse drenched in various liquors, with a definite shade of Tom Sharpe ... On its way now to RonOren
