Couldn't really get into the book. The first half of the book was ok, but I lost interest in the 2nd half. I'm guessing for those who are interested in the fashion and publishing world, it'll be a fun read. Hope that someone will appreciate this more than I did.

Synopsis from the back cover:
When Andrea first sets foot in the plush Manhattan offices of "Runway" she knows nothing. She's never heard of the world's most fasionable magazine, or its feared and fawned-over editor, Miranda Priestly. Soon she knows way too much. She knows it's a sacking offence to wear less than a three-inch heel to work - but there's always a fresh pair of Manolos in the accessories cupboard. She know that eight stone is fat. That you can charge anything - cars, manicures, clothes - to the "Runway" account, but you must never leave your desk, or let Miranda's coffee get cold. That at 3am, when your boyfriend's dumping you becuase you're always working and your best friend's just been arrested, if Miranda phones you with her latest unreasonable demand, you jump. Most of all, Andrea knows that Miranda is a monster boss who makes Cruella de Vil look like a fluffy bunny. But this is her big break, and it's all going to be worth it in the end. Isn't it?

5 out of 10

I received this yesterday morning and started on it immediately. Finished it this evening and sending it off to tantan tomorrow morning. I'm a fast reader when neccessity calls!

The story was very good for a chick lit. Entertaining but can be rather tedious with too much description. Kinda had to skip a few paragraphs when it got a little on the naggy side. Overall, it is a light read and it actually made me realize that hey, fashion can be soooo dramatic! Sometimes a little over the top, but due to some people like miranda it helps my understanding a lot more.

6 out of 10

Pretty good for chick lit. It was probably about one hundred pages too long - I think we got the point about how awful Miranda was by page 100, but it was a fast read, and pretty enjoyable. A good in-between book. This will be off to miss-gonewest as soon as I have an address.

Edit 11th January, 2005
I have put this in the post to miss-gonewest today.

Thanks for this book tantan & Soongsis, it arrived on Monday safe, sound & well packed.

I have started reading this already, I'm maybe 80 or 100 pages in to it, and its not what I expected....

At the moment, I guess I am kinda thinking "hey, what's so bad about your boss?", but then again, mine reminds me of Miranda, so what's she writing about isn't so foreign to me! And I have to do tasks like she does without complaining... Ok, other than the bit with the skirt - my boss is a bloke!

Now I am just waiting for things to go wrong with her divine sounding boyfriend! He sounds too good to be true!

I really want to read this after all the hype so I will keep on with it, but I guess I don't feel the horror about Miranda, so I can't feel sympathetic for Andrea. Aren't I a meanie?

EDITED: 20th Jan. OK, I'm feeling guilty about my first post, I am enjoying the book, more than I made it sound in what I wrote....

I'm now half way through and its picking up the pace, so that's a good sign!

7 out of 10

I finished this book over the weekend, and despite my first thoughts, I did end up kind of enjoying the story.

As stated before by other readers, it did tend to go on a bit & I too found myself skipping parts as it got too long winded. And I didn't find Miranda all that horrifying - rather I found Andrea's lack of self respect horrifying. {If I were her, I would have told Miranda where to go by about page 12!}

I am really glad to have finally read this book after hearing so much about it, so thanks to Soongsis for starting this ray.

I have quite a few books to post out so will hopefully get this in the mail before the end of the week. I will PM for an address now.

5 out of 10

I found myself struggling to read/finish this book. The story was just "average" and the style wasn't anything great. I kept waiting for the main character to wise up do something, but it just didn't happen. Even for chick lit I would call this story marginal.

I hope the next person on the list enjoys this more than I did. Sending it on to Enidq!

I finally finished the book today. It was somewhat a drag for me. Even though the story itself is something everyone can relate to (I mean, who hasn't had a horrible boss?), but for some reasons reading this book was not as easy as I thought.
Thank you for including me in this ring.
I'll mail it to MollyGrue as soon as I have an address.

Just returned from holidays and The Devil Wears Prada was waiting for me in my mailbox!!! Very exciting to come home to! I will PM the next in line so that I keep the ring moving . .thanks shpriz1!

Update June 14 -
I didn't finish as quickly as I had anticipated - due to my sister in law handing me the new Harlan Coben *I just HAD to read that one first* I found TDWP a little slow,a little annoying (I seriously doubt any post secondary grad would put up with that kind of work environment, especially when it's not your dream job), and the ending was a bit of a let-down. Anyway, off in the mail to the next in line today . .enjoy!!

Just received today -- and will read this next. Thanks for sharing!!

update - July 27
Just finished this and I agree that I wouldn't put up with this kind of inhumane work environment. Sure, I've had the 'boss from hell', but didn't put up with it nearly as long as Andrea did.

This book is off to Ohio.... enjoy.

Good book, but a little slow moving. It seemed to drag a bit toward the middle, but the beginning and end were pretty quick getting through. I enjoyed the character development and there were several parts that made me laugh out loud. Not the best chick lit I've ever read, but definetly worth the read.

Passing along to tabby90 who is next on the list.

Glimpse into the dark underbelly of fashion? Tale of the degredations people will fall to one mocha skim latte at a time? Yes, Ahn-dre-ah has paid her dues.
This book was amusing and well-written but lacked some meat. It seemed more like a defense of how the main character was brainwashed and abused. I'm so glad there was a happy ending or I don't think I could have stood it.

I've got gkonkler5's address and I'll be sending this out tomorrow.

Was quite an interesting book but a tad too irritating at times.,..what with Ahn-dreah and Miranda playing a constant game of cat and a very very scared mouse...
I found the book interesting as I worked in the Fashion industry, but cant imagine the book arousing interest in anyone not even knowing the difference between stilettos and Pumps...heheh
Anyhow the book is ready for its further travels...am waiting for address from Ulrika.

I thought that this was a fun book to read. I did think that Andy could have answered back in some of the issues, but I could also see how she saw this year in hell as a means to get her dream fulfilled and simply kept her head down. I'm glad that she finally had enough and bit back! Really liked the ending as well. Thanks for giving me the chance to read it.

It's on its way to Lizzyblack!

First of all, sorry for taking so long to read the book.. well, what should I say. I liked it, but I agree telling that sometimes it goes too much into boring descriptions.. well, after all, I'm not much into fashion even if I live here in Italy (maybe because prices of those kind of things are not just right what I can afford ;)); anyway, I thought if there is really someone who can act as Miranda (and probably, there is), and if it is possible to stand her for such a long time (not for me, actually. :P)
Thanx a lot, the book will leave as soon as I have JeSuisBelle's address!
