Got for too good of a deal at the bookstore!
Boys and Girls, let this be a lesson: write your journal entry right after you read the book! I let some time pass, and now I'm trying to remember what I want to say about this book. *sigh*
OK -- here's what I do know. That this is a GREAT book! Who would have thought I'd like something "the Nanny" wrote this much? But I did. It's a book that should be required reading for all women. For a woman who isn't sure exactly what is going on with her body, or who thinks something is wrong but the doctor(s) say she's fine; this book should be empowering.
She is blunt and clear, and her mission is simple (from the flyleaf): Don't let what happened to me happen to you.
This is the story of a woman who went to NINE different doctors before someone finally figured out what was wrong with her. She gives great advice, tells how she felt and when, and lets us ride along through her own self-discovery.
One small thing I enjoyed (really, there were so many parts of this book I could be quoting) was "Perhaps I'm trusting in old wives' tales, but I put great stock in fresh bed linens, clean pajamas, opened windows, and chicken soup." Maybe it's because I read this when I myself was home sick and could have used some chicken soup, but this tickled me :)
I'm going to grab every copy of this I can find to share with friends.
This is off to Hellie by request.

THanks Antof9. I am looking forard to reading this...I agree beofee I've read it that it is probably a book all women should read...
Interestingly, I'm into singer songwriters, and Beth Nielsen Chapmna is one of my favourties. She went to the same doctor, but had three, maybe four mammogroams before anyone decided she had breast cancer, she is a great advocate of all that now, much as it seems is fran Drescher - I think it's gret these women can go through such things and speak out to warm the rest of us...
I will journal again when read!
as predicted this was a touching, honest and thought provoking book - I think all women should be aware of storeis such as these so we are more vigilant ourselves...
Thanks for sharing

My mom, AceofHearts, passed away from breast cancer on September 17, 2013. Aside from being one of the best people I know, she was an avid reader and took immense pleasure in Bookcrossing, her book club, and reading many great books. Unfortunately she didn't get around to reading this book.
I will be releasing this in my mom's memory.
