Long but enjoyable fantasy tale of a sunrunner (woman who can communicate on light) and her dragon-slaying hero husband, who together find the secret of the dragons and ensure their kingdom's future. The building of the world and its power structure around light is really well done and interesting in itself without the romantic and other goings on. I wouldn't mind reading others in the series but I don't think this one's a keeper for me.

Ooh, I'm looking forward to this one! But I may have to use a telescope - I have a few other books that must be read first. Bother. Does this one have to go in the right place in the pile?!

Oh dear, I have had this book rather a long time! It was a fantastic read though, and I am having to fiercely resist looking for the sequel until I have at least read the rings being held up on my shelf! The characters are well drawn, and even though many of the situations are traditional - boy meets girl, trouble between boy and girl, boy and girl misunderstand each other, etc - the settings are completely new, the world and its 'magic' being a fine invention, and the characters while being consistent within themselves can still provide the reader with surprises. Thank you so much for letting me read this book!
Will be posted to Mytilusgirl tomorrow.

Arrived today, thank you Wistful!

Hopefully I'll start this on Sunday, as I'm in the middle of a ringed book right now.

Thanks!

I don't know what my problem with this book was. I lost interest halfway through, and sort of skim read the rest, so I have a vague understanding of what happened in the end.

I'm a BIG sci-fi and fantasy reader. Usually I just can't get enough, so for me not to avidly enjoy the Dragon Prince is extremely surprising.

Sorry Ermintrude75.

It's really like two books. One story comes to an end, some years pass, a new story starts. Perhaps that's why Mytilusgirl lost interest - waiting for the book to end?
Anyway, I enjoyed both stories.

I've been off work sick the last couple of days and it is my first day back in and this book was waiting for me. What a way to cheer me up. I also finished a book yesterday so I can start on this one straight away. Wonderful timing.

Rohan becomes prince of the desert earlier than expected when a dragon kills his father. No one is sure how he will do as he so different to his father, quiet and studious instead of loud and physical. The three yearly trading meet is approaching and Rohan knows the pressure is on him to select a bride there. His Aunt has selected one of her sunrunners (can communicate by weaving the light from the sun and moon) while the High Prince has many daughters he is offering.

This is a very enjoyable read and although it’s not the best fantasy book I have read I finished the book in three days and I’m keen to read the rest of the series. The book appears to be in two parts; the first is about Rohan becoming prince and selecting a wife (more complex and political than it sounds) and then there is a gap of a few years and the story continues with the repercussions of Rohan choice. I would have been happier with the book if it had finished after the first part and the rest was in the next book in the series, I almost didn’t go back for the second part, but obviously it didn’t take me that long to get back into it.

Poor postie was greeted by a groggy, dressing gown clad me and a gaggle of small inquisitive boys yesterday when this arrived. Being so alert and awake (not!) I only remembered to log this arrival after searching for books due to pass along to the next ring participant :-/ LOL

I do have a few other books to read in my TBR list so I might be a tad delayed reading this one
