Book Description
Anna Karenina tells of the doomed love affair between the sensuous and rebellious Anna and the dashing officer, Count Vronsky. Tragedy unfolds as Anna rejects her passionless marriage and must endure the hypocrisies of society. Set against a vast and richly textured canvas of nineteenth-century Russia, the novel's seven major characters create a dynamic imbalance, playing out the contrasts of city and country life and all the variations on love and family happiness.

The book has arrived safe and sound :D YAY! This is the first BC book I've received by mail so I'm very excited :) I've started reading it already. So far, I've found it easy reading and quite enjoyable. It's a beautiful book and in mint condition - I'll do my best to keep it that way! Thanks heaps for letting me borrow it, MichyJ :)
** update ** 14/11/2005 I'm over halfway through now! :D I'll hopefully have this finished in a couple of weeks.
** update ** 24/11/2005 I've got less than 100 pages to go now so providing nothing stops me from getting to the post office, I should be able to send this out Monday :)

P.S. MichyJ, you left a souvenir from the states in the book - do you want me to leave it in the book or post it back to you? I kept the mailbag you sent the book in so I've already got your address.

Phew! I made it! FINALLY!!! That book was hard going after a while and I was beginning to feel like it was the Never Ending Story and that I would never get it finished. It ended on a nice enough note but I'm not going to be in any rush to read another russian book any time soon! I think the translation was done very well though.
