Former "street rat" Briar leads a comfortable life at Winding Circle Temple, learning plant magic from Rosethorn. But street kids are still his friends, and when one of them gets sick, she turns to Briar for help. When her disease proves beyond even Rosethorn's power, Briar realizes that all of Summersea is in danger.

As the mysterious illness spreads, Sandry, Daja, and Tris join Briar and their teachers to fight the epidemic. But just as the situation improves, the unthinkable happens.

The circle does it again. And everything comes full circle as it ends exactly one year after the four of them had been brought together. And what a year! Earthquake, pirates, drought/fires, disease. Fortunately, this is not the last we'll see of these four as there is another quartet that I have to look forward to reading.

Yep, this one arrived at my house yesterday, too. Part of the Tamora Pierce festival I'll be having not soon enough for my liking...

I think this was the strongest of the quartet, but I also suspect that's partly because Briar is my favorite of the four.

This book came into our local Shelter charity shop and is now sitting comfortably on our shelves for £1!
