Book Description

Life is a circle, and what goes around, comes around. Just ask a trio of unforgettable women in Marian Keyes's enchanting new novel ...

Energetic, ambitious, and sexy, literary agent Jojo Harvey combines Jessica Rabbit's body with a mind like a steel trap. As if watching her back while on the corporate ladder and making million-dollar deals wasn't difficult enough, Jojo's having a relationship with her boss. Her married boss.

Tall, slender, and blond, bestselling author Lily Wright, one of Jojo's clients, worries about bad karma and the second novel she can't seem to write but must deliver -- she's already spent the advance. Anton, the Love of Her Life, persuaded her to buy their dream house.

Events organizer extraordinaire Gemma Hogan was best friends with Lily -- until the willowy blonde stole Anton, a.k.a. the Love of Her Life. Juggling the demands of her newly separated (and desperately needy) mom, Gemma's social life is flatlining -- a mortifying situation that makes for hilarious e-mails to a friend. Tales so funny, they come to the attention of top literary agent Jojo Harvey, who takes Gemma on as a client ...

Written in the charming and chatty voice that has become Marian Keyes's signature style, this hilarious and heartwarming new novel proves there are three sides to every story ... especially in the world of publishing!

I love Marian Keyes. This was a good book. It is a big one ( almost 650 pages). It has a great story that all the characters are connected somehow. It is is 3 parts and was too long. Her editor should have cut parts out. It started well but then just kept going on and then the end just felt rushed to tie everything up. That is my only major complaint though. Cna't wait for her next book!

Yay! It came in the mail today -- I'm leaving for a long weekend tomorrow and am so excited to take this on the plane with me. Hope to be reading, journaling, and rereleasing pretty quickly.

Journal Entry 6 by your-book-fairy from South Orange, New Jersey USA on Thursday, September 16, 2004
This definitely was a long one, and I agree that the ending did get tied up pretty quickly. I did like the use of the three intersecting story lines that all had complimentary themes, though, and I always enjoy Marian's writing.

I'm mailing this off to KarenZero today!

RELEASE NOTES:

I finished this yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am a big fan of Marian Keyes - I like her writing style and I love the fact that her characters are never 'perfect.' I liked the way this book was set up - telling the stories of the three different women and slowly bringing them together - but I felt that it was overlong in places. All in all, though, a very good read.

Sending off to SpikesMom this afternoon!

Journal Entry 13 by WestofMars from Mars, Pennsylvania USA on Tuesday, November 2, 2004
Arrived today. I'll start reading ASAP -- like, as soon as I get off the 'puter. :D

This was utterly impossible to put down.

I have to agree with the other comments that the story wraps up too fast, particularly Jojo's. She was, by far, my favorite character, probably because she was never paralyzed by inaction, or passive, like the other two.

My only other complaint was that there were too many non-essential characters -- like all the step-brothers and others who only appear in name, and maybe only once or twice in the story. It got too confusing to keep everyone straight, and probably contributed to the overlong feel of the book.

I'm off to mail this off to sidney1220 on Monday, but in the meantime, I think I'm going to add a bunch of Keyes' books to my wishlist...

Journal Entry 15 by Sidney1220 from McLean, Virginia USA on Thursday, November 25, 2004
Received in the mail last Friday but forgot to journal it until now. I should be able to get to it fairly soon with the 4 day weekend starting tomorrow.

Journal Entry 16 by Sidney1220 from McLean, Virginia USA on Tuesday, December 14, 2004
I did not enjoy this book as much as Marian Keye's other books. I like her writing style, and it was a fast read. But there wasn't much of a plot, and when things finally did start happening, it's as if the author finally realized that she's already written 400 pages with nothing much going on and now has to make up for lost time. As a result, the ending felt very rushed and unrealistic. I started out liking all 3 of the woman. But by the time I closed the book, I didn't care for any of them.

Received this bookring in today's mail. I'm currently reading another bookring and have one other waiting... then this one is up. I'll try to hurry!

Journal Entry 18 by SandDanz from Louisville, Kentucky USA on Wednesday, March 9, 2005
I am going to have to just pass this one along. I've had it for too long as it is and I have only made it about 250 pages due to having trouble getting fully into it and with being bombarded by other bookrings all at once. It does seem like I would've turned out enjoying it, but I just can't right now because I have too much going on. I've PMed the next person on the list and assuming I have their address I will send this out when I get back in town next week. Thanks Doris!

Received in the mail - Thank you! Marian Keyes is one of my favorite chick lit authors so I'm really looking forward to reading this. It's the only bookring book I have right now, so I can start it as soon as I finish my current book. Thanks for sharing.

This book looks huge, but it's really a fast read. I enjoyed it, as I've enjoyed most Marian Keyes books, but it definately wasn't one of my favorites. (Rachel's Holiday and Watermelon are still my favorite Marian Keyes books.) I have to agree with many of the other readers who said that not much happens for a good portion of the book, and then everything is wrapped up very quickly at the end. Still - it was a fun read. Thanks for sharing!

Really good book. A light, quick read that you can breeze right through. I liked the multiple story lines that sort of merged toegther at different points. This happens to be my first Marian Keyes so I was pleasantly surprised. I will admit the ending kind of did get tied up quickly as other journalers mentioned, but I still really enjoyed this from start to finish. Thanks Doris! This is off to my very good friend, arugh48187 tomorrow!

Journal Entry 25 by arugh48187 from Highland Park, Illinois USA on Thursday, April 21, 2005
Well, my bookringless existance only lasted four days. This one is at the top of the list, so it shouldn't take me too long.

Journal Entry 26 by arugh48187 from Highland Park, Illinois USA on Wednesday, May 11, 2005
I lied. This book took me forever to read. I guess between travels to see my new niece, picking up some kind of ugly-bug from her, recovering through drug assistance, only to find out I had gifted the lovely germy to my dear son who consequently developed a double-barrelled ear infection, left me with little time or enthusiasm to enjoy this one.

I did finish it though and I was somewhat disappointed. I have enjoyed ALL of Marian Keyes novel, but this one just lacked something. It could be that I hate books that have more than one storyline and I always feel that the author had a few stories, but none long enough for a book, so she then loosely connects them and jams them into one book. Yuck! Messy and annoying. I liked all of the characters, but when you roll them all into one book they all kind of seem the same. I agree that the wrapping up went rather fast and I think it had to do with the fact that in the beginning large chunks at a time were devoted to each character and at the end it was little bits and pieces of each.

Anyway, thanks for sharing and it should go in the post as soon as I can drag my germ infested carcass into the post office (now isn't that a pleasant note to end on).

Yay, I adore Marian Keyes! Have serveral books going at once (although I did finish one last night), so if I don't get to this before Friday, then it will definitely be my weekend book!

Journal Entry 29 by wingAramenawing from Noble, Oklahoma USA on Wednesday, June 1, 2005
Finished today while waiting for my daughter to come out of school. I loved it. I didn't read any of the other journal entries until after I finished the book (I always wait so I won't be influenced), and I did not notice the ending being rushed at all. In fact, I was getting impatient for Lilly's and Gemma's storylines to tie up, since I had already figured out pretty much how they would end. All in all, a very satisfying read to me.

BigBird2002 said to skip her, so this will be off in tomorrow's mail to Sharalsbooks. Thanks for sharing Doris!
