‘David lay quite still in the darkness of the camp, waiting for the signal. “You must get away tonight,” the man had told him. “Stay awake so that you’re ready just before the guard is changed. When you see me strike a match, the current will be cut off and you can climb over – you’ll have half a minute for it, no more.”’ Silent and watchful, David, the boy from the camp, tramps across Europe, knowing that at any moment they may catch up with him.
‘…the boy’s strange, intense, self-preserving view of life is realized superbly.’ – The Sunday Times
‘A most compassionate, powerful, moving book, full of hope and tenderness.’ – The Evening Standard

Old school book of mine.
lol - just noticed when the lamp was shining on the book cover... I must have used the book to lean on when writing out Sweet Valley High titles. You can see the imprint when the book is held up to the light! How's that for a major jump in literature genres! Well, I guess they are both aimed at young adults... but still, a bit of a jump.
