Journal Entry 1 by DrBrown from Sierra Madre, California USA on Monday, June 21, 2004
Let's face it: this book is at some level a guilty pleasure. If you're looking for Latina-American literature, I'd recommend Denise Chavez over Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez. HOWEVER: If you're looking for a beach read and are tired of the same old same old characters, this is the book for you. Valdes-Rodriguez gets the voices of the characters absolutely right -- and she does manage to get them absolutely different as well. This book will demolish stereotypes while it entertains you. I wish there was a different book category here: while I would call this more than women's fiction, it's not quite up to the literature category. How about "Chick Lit That Makes A Difference"?

Just got this in the mail today. Just finished the first chapter and I think I am gonna like it!

Journal Entry 4 by gomboggit from Baker City, Oregon USA on Sunday, July 4, 2004
I like the way it is written. Each character has her own voice and personality. It is written as though you are one of the sucias. However, concerning the combination of Christianity and lesbianism, that just can't happen. If anyone were to read the Bible they would find in the writings of Moses in the Old Testament and again in Paul's writings of the New Testament, that homosexuality is an abomination to God, He does not accept it. This does not mean that God hates you if you are gay, He loves you, he just hates the sin. Also God does not approve of things just because they "feel" right, especially if they go against His never-changing Word. This book also had some parts in it that made me uncomfortable (this coming from a woman who doesn't rent rated R movies if there are sex scenes or nudity), but the characters were likable, and I felt for them and their problems that they encountered. It also broadened my perspective on Latinas, gave me a little more insight than what I would normally get living in a mostly-white small town. For the most part it was an enjoyable read, even though not something I would normally pick up. :)

Finished this book last night. I enjoyed it. It was different then some chick lit as it dealt with deeper issues. I enjoyed the constant theme of friends no matter what will be there for you. The timeline was a bit off as all these major events/changes happened in like 6 months. The los ends were tied up but it was done rather rushed at the end. In the matters that the story dealt with, normally things do not tie up so quickly and simply. But this is fiction and still a very good book. I would read more from this author given the chance.

PM'ing PJMom8025.

Finally received this book. I have been looking forward to reading it for months. Thank you Dr.Brown for sharing. I have a couple of books ahead of it and hopefully will have it done and on it's way in a couple of weeks.

I really thought I was in for a fluffy novel about a bunch of fun loving women. But I was wrong. Each of these girls have a 'dirty' secret that none of the other friends know about. I really enjoyed this book. I have the last 30 pages. It will be on it's way to rrrcaron in the morning.

I loved this story. At first, I had a hard time keeping the girls striaght, I kept getting the characters mixed up, but it wasn't long until I was caght up in each of their lives. My heart went out to all of them while sharing both their triumphs and their sorrows. I highly recommend this book on friendship. Thanks so much for sharing, and sorry if I held it too long. Sending on to Nicole4.

I so enjoyed this book! I haven't read any chick lit for awhile and it was refreshing! I'll have to get more into it again. You couldn't help but fall for the girls in the story and I only wish the book could have been longer. I'm going to definitely check out the next book by this author!

RELEASE NOTES:

I really enjoyed this book. It was nothing what I expected, and I loved it even more for that. I loved each one of the endings for the girls, and I would have loved to see an "epilogue" of a few years down the line to see how a few of the girls turned out... as cheezy as that sounds. :) Thanks again DrBrown for sharing this book. It was a great read.

Arrived two days ago. I've started on it, but I'm not sure what I think so far. But should be a quick read. Thanks for sharing it.

Journal Entry 21 by humberts-doll from Springfield, Missouri USA on Saturday, March 19, 2005
I enjoy some chick lit, but this wasn't for me. The characters were too condescending and off-putting to draw me in, and toward the end, I started skimming a lot. The author might have been trying to avoid stereotyping her characters, but the plot was definitely lacking originality. Regardless, thanks for including me in the ray. I've PM'd the next person and will send it on as soon as I hear from her.

PM'd Cytonella and later Batty14. Both already have the book and do not want to participate. It may be a while before I get the chance to go to the PO to ship this to Canada. I'm in the middle of a move. But I'll get to it as soon as I can.

Well, I am very ashamed to say that I was unable to finish this book :( It was mostly a time/life factor that has been getting in the way of my reading time lately; and when I did manage to sit down to it, I just wasn't able to get into the characters enough. Mind you, I only made it to about page 80 or so; so that may have changed with time.

Anyhoo, I just dropped this in the mail this evening, on its way to Armantha! :)

Got this from a bookring. Good light, easy read. Finished it in a day. I was the last one on the list and had instructions to set it free. I have passed it on to a co-worker let's see if she logs it.
