Still love Vonnegut. He's the best.
"CAT'S CRADLE" is an irreverent and often highly entertaining fantasy concerning the playful irresponsibility of nuclear scientists. Like the best of contemporary satire, it is work of a far more engaging and meaningful order than the melodramatic tripe which most critics seem to consider 'serious.'"
Mail released on 7-13-04 to lyssrose. Enjoy!

When I arrived in Lafayette on Friday, the book was waiting for me in my mailbox. Yeah! (I didn't have Internet access until today, so I'm sorry about the delay in journaling the book.)
I'm looking forward to reading this one.

I don't really know what to make of this book yet. So much is going on in it that I think I need to take more time to think about it and probably to read it again at some point in the future. Lots of ideas: appearance vs. reality, truth, religion, science, war, and perhaps even the meaning (or not meaning) of life.

Thank you karendawn!
Just got it this morning. I will take it into work and reglue the book's spine as its come undone. (Using book glue - I work in a public library :) )
I've heard a fair bit about thsi author but never got round to reading anything by him. He has a cult status so I am very curious....

Hmmm...what a curious book! Its satirical, thats for sure, with dark humour that sometimes dips into absurdity. I found the first half of the book more enjoyable than the second..up till the point where the main character goes off to the island.
There's a fair bit of social commentary - fanilies, death, science, scientists, morality, ethics - its all there....but the way in which it was written about..well...I understand the cult status of this author...he's certainly 'off the wall'. I will probably read another of his novels, once I get my hands on one, to properly quench my curiosity.
