A thundering at the front door. There was a man wearing an armlet. "Gas masks," he said. "How many in your household?"
No one ever thought war would be like this. It was as bad or worse all over the country. Homes in ruins without gas, electricity or water, typhoid and cholera on the rampage, and the bombs from the sky a nightly terror.
The Corbetts had to escape. As their home and their world collapsed around them, maybe there was a chance of escape on their small yacht in the Solent...
