Fluke : Or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings ***US Bookring***

Moore is hysterically funny! This is another of his books you have to read alone or at least in the company of people who don't mind you giggling aloud, laughing so hard you drop your book and having to talk about this next great funny part with anyone who will listen.
It also has its intellectual side. Every reader can look smug at cocktail parties conceited in knowing the facts about what truly happened to Amelia Earhart.

Handing it off to Mayday1aw so she can giggle as much as I did.

I just love Chritpher Moore and thank my friend for turning me on to him. A super fun read and great imagination. I laughed a lot :)
It's here - yeah! Alas, I waited for it as long as I could, but I started one other book and then another bookring came before it. But I may sneak it in first, since more people are waiting and who can just sit on a C. Moore book? At any rate, I'm on it asap.
Oops. That anonymous finder was me - didn't realize I'd been logged out.
Just finished Fluke, and PMed princessaurora, who is next in line.
I enjoyed it, though it was a bit more Douglas Adam-ish than the others. So far, I've read this, Lamb and Bloosucking Fiends, and I have to say, I wouldn't recommend this to newbies of Moore's work. Still, Moore is just a funtastic writer and I really have a great time reading his stories. They're funny without trying too hard, and he's smart to boot. I loved the idea of the whaley boys - right up until they start ... well. You'll see.
Also, on a sad note, I seemed to have misplaced the Fluke bookmark. I'm going to look around for it and will replace it with something else if I can't find it. I apologize. If you tell me where I can buy one, I'll replace it.

On the way to princessaurora; mailed it today! Still owe you a bookmark, though.
I received two bookrings today - this being one of them. I'll start as soon as I'm finished the one I'm already reading.
9/13 - I finished this a while ago and had thought I'd sent it on, but then saw it sitting in a pile of books. I'll be mailing it out by the end of this week.
I enjoyed this one much more than "Lust Lizard".

I never got the chance to read this one, but I'm sending it on so as not to stall the ring any longer. Will have it in the mail this week.

Czersk asked to be skipped because she already had a copy of the book, so I'm sending it on to vsimeone as soon as I receive an address.

Just received today in the mail. I am anxious to read this! My stack of Bookrings is a little high right now. My daughter's soccer team is playing in the state regional semi-finals. Soccer season is ALMOST over and then my reading time will increase exponentially! I'll get this one done just as soon as possible. Thank you for including me!
I'm sorry, I have had this book entirely too long. Since I'm not sure when I will get to it with the holidays approaching, it is going in the mail to karendawn tomorrow. Maybe it can come back to me at the end of the ring. I was looking forward to reading it but do not want to hold up the ring any longer. Thank you for including me and I'm sorry again to have delayed so long.
I'm in Texas on vacation and the book was waiting for me in the mailbox when I arrived. Since I'm on vacation, I should have lots of time to read, so this should be able to leave soon (although I did receive another bookring, but I opened this package first, so I'll read it first).
This book was a mixed bag - humor, science-ish, mystery, suspense, action, romance. It has it all. Parts of it I didn't really like (the beginning was a little hard to get into for a while) and parts that I really liked (the last few chapters were very good, especially).
I'll be sending this on as soon as I can get to the post office.

I have a few rings ahead of this one, but I look forward to reading it. Thanks!
This turned out to be somewhat more serious than I usually find his books. Good, suspensful story though.
Now it's off to the next reader!

Thanks MollyGrue, I got this book in the mail today. I am not reading anything right now so I can get right to it. I should be finished in a week or so. I can't wait!!!
Oh, I LOVED this book!!! Thank you so much, advoc84justice. for letting me read your copy. I think I need to buy my own now though.
I can't get too deep about why, I don't know why, but I really loved all of this book. The characters, the plot, the author's notes and even his photo on the back. I laughed, I cried, but mostly I giggled like a whaley boy - a female one. :) Just the premise of this book is great. Not to mention the very funny way Christopher Moore writes. He has the most incredible imagination. I would love to party with that dude. Now I'm off to donate to the Whale Trust and "yell at people randomly to stop killing whales".
Shut up and stop killing whales!

Sent to chance22 today. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
Received this book in the mail today. Can't wait to start it; it is next in line after the one I am currently reading.
This was a great quick read and I definitely love Moore's sense of humor; that said, I don't think this was his best piece of work...I don't know if anything will ever top Lamb. Although it was very clever and imaginative, I don't think there was ever a laugh out loud moment, which is what I would have expected. It was thoroughly enjoyable though and I am glad to have read it. Moore is definitely one of my favorite authors. I'll PM the next person on the list and get this book traveling again soon.

received and is next in my pile to read.
This was my first Christopher Moore book. I laughed at the absurdity of Gooville, but was touched by the heartfelt conservation theme throughout the book. Thank you for sharing this with us. I look forward to reading other Moore books.
Received sometime while I was out of town through paperbackswap.com. Thanks!
This one was more out there then most of Christopher Moore's books and that's saying that it's way out there.

Hmm! Very strange and oddly amusing, with a nice, big, fat MESSAGE. Go the Goo!
It's very odd to have read this just after Douglas Adams' Last Chance to See... - it's a little bit like a sequel.

Sorry for checking in late but I still haven't quite settled back in since I got back from holiday a couple of weeks ago - I still haven't finished unpacking! Anyway, thanks for this wishlist book. Christopher Moore is always a good read!
From Amazon.com:
In his entertaining adventure-in-whale-researching, Fluke, or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings, Nathan Quinn, a prominent marine biologist, has been conducting studies in Hawaii for years trying to unravel the secret of why humpback whales sing. During a typical day of data gathering, Nate believes his mind is failing: the subject whale has "Bite Me" scrawled across its tail. Events become even stranger as the self-proclaimed "action nerds," Nate, photographer Clay, their research assistant Amy, and Kona, a white Rasta (a Jewish kid from New Jersey), encounter sabotage to their data and equipment. They also observe increasingly bizarre whale behavior, including a phone call from the whale to their wealthy sponsor to ask that Nate bring it a hot pastrami and Swiss on rye, and discover both a thriving underwater city and the secret to what happened to Amelia Earhart.
Thoughtful, irreverent, and often hilarious, Moore has crafted a tale that contains a bit of the saga of declining whale populations due to hunting and habitat destruction, as well as his over-the-top, decadent wit as applied to scientific methodology and professional jealousies. Moore notes a pasty, rival scientist "looked like Death out for his after-dinner stroll before a busy night of e-mailing heart attacks and tumors to a few million lucky winners," and that killer whales (which are all named Kevin), are "just four tons of doofus dressed up like a police car." Smart, sincere, and a whale of a story, Fluke is terrific.
