3 out of 10

I bought this one because: 1. I've heard great things about Christopher Moore (like "he's great!" or "he's hilarious") 2. I love vamp. fiction 3. I love books with a sense of humor
I thought this book was going to be right up my alley and I dove into it a day after I got it home.

It started off with a bang! I laughed, I sympathized, I liked the main characters. But as I read further, the story just didn't go anywhere. It was like the author was just killing time, the plot stagnated, the characters were never fully developed, remaining 1 dimensional and getting to be a little annoying. I gave up at page 145. It's a shame.

Caught in postal trade - thanks so much! Not Christopher Moore's best work (that would be Lamb, of course) but a fun and quick read nonetheless. Predictable ending, but worth the time if you like Moore's style.

7 out of 10

This was my first Christopher Moore book, and while I enjoyed it and am really happy I joined this bookring, I'm also glad to hear that it's not generally considered his best story. It started off pretty well, and it's full of quirky amusing stuff. It was quirky/funny up until about 2/3 of the way through, and then things started to get kinda quirky/just-a-little-bit-off. Right about then the story started to get a little bit unfocused too. The bad guy seemed like more of a plot device than a character, and I think the story might have been better if he'd been more developed.

Hmmm...reading all that, I may be complaining too much and giving everyone the wrong impression! Because overall, I really did like the book! I will keep my eyes open for more of Christopher Moore's stories--if this was one of his lesser efforts, his best ones must be great! Thanks for hosting this ring, Firegirl!

I'm PMing CheriePie so I can send this off to her next.

I liked this book. This is the second book by Moore I've read, the other being Practical Demonkeeping, but I'm on bookrings for some of his other titles as well. Overall, I thought this was a pretty good read. Besides the reviews here, I'd read a few other reviews on another copy of this book going around and I couldn't understand how some people really disliked it as much as they did. It may not have been as good as Practical Demonkeeping, but I certainly feel it's worth at least the 7 I'm giving it. I probably would've went for an 8 if the character of the male vampire Ben was fleshed out a bit. I found him to be a very intriguing and interesting character and was disappointed to not be able to get into his head more.

I've sent a PM to Jengif, who says on her profile page that she's away for the Thanksgiving holiday, to request her address so I'll get this in the mail to her as soon as she gets back to me with that.

I enjoyed Bloodsucking Fiends. It was a fun read and Christopher Moore reminds me a bit of Tom Robbins. Both have a rather quirky style of writing. I got a real kick out of Tommy’s and the Animals’ antics in the Safeway. I wonder if the turkey we had at Thanksgiving was previously in a bowling tournament?

I mailed this to luv2sewtjr in Pennsylvania this morning.

I just got this in the mail. It looks like a fun read, especially since I just finished a heavier book. I hope to have this book read and mailed by the new year.

Thanks for adding me to this ring!

This was my third Christopher Moore book, and my least favorite thusfar.

I didn't really care about any of the characters; they were actually a little too stereotypical for me. I kept reading the book because I wanted to know how it ended, but it didn't really engage me that much. It was amusing, but not as funny as Lamb or The Stupidest Angel.

I'll still keep reading his books. This just wasn't his best.

I'll be mailing this out very soon.

done - i thought this was amusing. his style makes the reading fast. the characters are fairly superficial - but it was still a fun read. i did like how everyone knew the emperor.

Quick and easy-reading, completed in only a few hours. I love vampire fiction and this was not a disappointment.

I would've liked to have learned more about Elijah and I confess I guessed the ending quite early on but these did not detract from my enjoyment. The only real complaint I would have, as a Brit, is how many times I had to think, "What the hell's that?" whilst reading about for example, "L'eggs eggs" or "bear claws"! I think this book was written by an American for Americans to read, not limeys!

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it!

Soon to be on it's way to the next bcer on the list - katayoun.

the book came while we were rushing out of the house for a weekend/new year trip, it liked the countryside and i loved reading while the breeze was playing with the blossoms, the sound of water and birds as background music!

as to the book, i'm a moore fan and so i like his writing, i like his very strange things that could be true IF you'd look at it just at a certain angle, (while standing on your head!!) like his pranks, his laughs ... i like his writing AND his stories. and while lamb is still my favorite, i enjoyed this alot and am so glad that i got the chance to read it, thanks so much AnOceanSpirit and Firegirl!!

it's ready to be mailed to Taniazed as soon as i get the address and also things get back to normal after the new year craziness.

I read this book within 36 hours, which is really rare for me! Needless to say, I loved the book! It combined a fast moving pace with a great vampire story, some intrigue, a dash of romance, and a healthy dose of humour without being ridiculous. I was laughing out loud many times during reading this, and had to read bits aloud to my husband (who didn't show the proper appreciation, I might add.) Not one of my 'all time' favorite books, but certainly amoung the handful of favorites this year. Thanks so much for letting me participate in the ring!

Mailed via airmail today to Flaming-Ice

I really enjoyed this book alot. I have not read any of Moore's books, and this one was a good intruductory. I have a copy of Lamb, which I will definetely start reading soon, since I found out that he is truley hilarious. I heard that Lamb is much better than this book, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Thanks, Firegirl for sharing this book. I'll send it off to Apolonia as soon as I get a reply with the address.
Happy Bookcrossing!

I liked this I thought it was a quick easy read. I do like Moore's style and the crazy things he writes. I do agree that the characters could be a little more deep. As far as the romance aspect you could tell it was written by a man, it didn't move me at all.
I was already planing to add some more of his books to my wishlist, and now I'm even anxious to get them considering so many of you didn't think this wasn't his best work.
I will probably drop this in the mail in the next day or two.
Hope you enjoy it Intriqken!

Just received via bookray....last in the ray...I've read the book already but look forward to reading it again. Great fun. Moore's humor really touches my funny bone and his insight into the (futile?) human condition is right-on.
