WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

What a read! Palahniuk has quite an imagination - and a grasp of human nature. A reporter and his three companions journey around the country in search of copies of a book that contains a deadly "culling song" - a song whose lyrics can kill, and have left tragedy in their wake. This story is a tautly crafted magic realism tale that will have you wondering if an innocent-sounding poem could indeed bring about death. Via the reporter, Palahniuk makes some interesting observations about human nature, the lust for power, and the desire for noise - or quiet.

I enjoyed it so much that I offered it as a bookring. The final order is thus:

Thanks for sending the book! I'll read and pass it on as soon as I can.

Journal Entry 4 by literarylover from Miami, Florida USA on Monday, July 18, 2005
I just finished reading this book and loved it. This is the first Palahniuk book that I've read,(I've been wanting to read his work for a while) and it was great. Such a simple yet complex story, and the characters are hilarious. I read this book in two days,(probably the shortest amount of time its taken me to read a book). I have to say, after reading the first half last night, I was creeped out going to sleep and had a couple of troubling dreams. Now that I have completed it, I am no longer creeped out and am satisfied with the completion. Anyway, enough rambling, I'm going to mail it to dospescados once I get the address.

Journal Entry 5 by dospescados on Saturday, August 13, 2005
Arrived today. Thanks!

Journal Entry 6 by dospescados on Wednesday, September 14, 2005
I've had some really mediocre reading ahead of this one so hopefully this will be a lot better! I'll start this tonight or tomorrow. I've already PMed titihood for her address.

Journal Entry 7 by dospescados on Friday, September 23, 2005
I finished the book a few days ago. Most of the characters annoyed me for most of the book but it was a fun read overall. I'll definitely try Palahniuk again in the future. I haven't heard back from titihood so I'll go ahead and PM Natodd.

Journal Entry 8 by dospescados on Monday, September 26, 2005
Titihood sent me her address in the nick of time so it will be going to her and then to natodd.

Journal Entry 9 by titihood on Thursday, December 1, 2005
I received this yesterday, am really looking forward to reading it - as yet I am a Palahniuk virgin (book-wise anyway). Thanks for sharing Cyberkedi!

Journal Entry 10 by titihood on Saturday, February 11, 2006
I really had high hopes for this book but when I started reading it these hopes seemed dashed against the rocks. Palahniuk's writing style was simply not easy to get into, I found it frustrating and childish. However, this could have been due to the numerous distractions of Florida (ahh, my heart is still there, even if I am back in the cold North). However, as I continued doggedly on, I began to understand Palahniuk's genius as it crept up on me. Soon enough I was hooked. :)
Sending to Natodd later this week.

This was a great read. Sending it on this weekend to the next person...

Journal Entry 12 by Heaven150 from Edmonton, Alberta Canada on Monday, March 27, 2006
Received today. I have one little book to finish, and then I'll start this one.

Thanks for sharing.

A very interesting read. The first part sorta creeped me out. But it was less creepy as it went along. I really enjoyed the colour descriptions. Just waiting on Swilder's address and I'll mail it on.

Forgot to make a journal entry for this. I was unable to get a hold of Swilder, so I've sent the book on to Maresa. It was mailed Tuesday, April 18/06.

Journal Entry 15 by Maresa from Bayreuth, Bayern Germany on Friday, April 28, 2006
The book arrived this week, I found it today at my desk ;-)

That was really... interesting ;-) First, Palahniuks style of writing was quite frustrating, especially for a non native speaker, but then I get into the book. The story is quite simple but brings you also to think about different problems of our today's life, I'd say. It was my first novel by Palahniuk, I saw Fight Club several times, and it was quite a joy to read. I will send the book to freesia this week ;-)

20/06/06: Just to oet you know: I send the book abaout four weeks ago to Australia, but not via Air-Mail - so I think the book will arrive within the next two or three weeks (I hope so ;-)

Many thanks for this book, which arrived a couple of days ago!

I dived straight into it but at first was a little disengaged - the narrative voice is deliberately emotionless, although discussing really distressing events and callous behaviour. The jumping between disjointed scenes didn't make a lot of sense for a long time.

Now I've finished it and feel like I did after watching The Sixth Sense for the first time - you go ah! it's all been foreshadowed throughout! Now I need to re-read it and let everything fall into place!

It brought together a lot of fascinating strands and perspectives as well as drawing a fascinating portrait of the protagonist, a man with a spell in his head so deadly that he can inadvertently kill with a thought. You have to wonder ... how would you handle this?

To be re-read, then passed on to puppymummy.

Arrived safely, looking forward to it but I do have a couple ahead. Off to do some reading!

Wow! What a great imagination Palahniuk has - a really interesting concept, and each layer adds to the story. I'm very impressed, will keep an eye out for more of his writing. Thanks for sharing this with me!
Sending to Zandramas tomorrow.

Journal Entry 20 by stillbeing from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Saturday, January 20, 2007
I borrowed this off Zandramas and just finished it - I believe it was part of a bookray/bookring but seems I've diverted it slightly.

I really enjoyed this one. I've always devoured Palahnik's work like a greedy kid with junkfood, but I've always found some to be better than others. Thankfully, this was one of the better ones, and I think the fact it was so unusual and wacky really worked well.

I think as long as you're not looking for something serious, realistic and warm and fuzzy, this one's definitely worth the read.

I'll return it to Zandramas when I next see her (I forgot to bring it the other night) and hopefully it will return on it's journey once more!
