Calicocollie just sent this to me. I've always meant to read it...well, that's actually not true. For the longest time I had no desire to either read it or see the film. One night my sister forced me to watch the movie and I quite enjoyed it. (Colin Firth is great!). I hadn't known about the whole "Pride and Prejudice" parallels. Thanks, can't wait to get started.

Very enjoyable and true read. I think everyone knows these people. Since I saw the film before reading this, it was interesting to see what "cinematic" changes had been made...namely pitting Daniel more obviously against Mark Darcy to create theatrical sexual tension. I think the book's version played out truer, but that the movie's was a little more gripping. (Maybe, though, since I'd seen the movie, it's just that I knew the ending, so was not too worked up). But I did really enjoy the book. A very quick and fun read. Also, thank goodness Helen Fielding wrote the movie's screenplay--it really helped keep true to the spirit of this book. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.

Bridget Jones's Diary is the devastatingly self-aware, laugh-out-loud account of a year in the life of a thirty-something Singleton on a permanent doomed quest for self-improvement. Caught between the joys of Singleton fun, and the fear of dying alone and being found three weeks later half eaten by an Alsatian; tortured by Smug Married friends asking, "How's your love life" with lascivious, yet patronizing leers, Bridget resolves to reduce the circumference of each thigh by 1.5 inches, visit the gym three times a week not just to buy a sandwich, form a functional relationship with a responsible adult and learn to program the VCR. With a blend of flighty charm, existential gloom, and endearing self-deprecation, the diary has touched a raw nerve with millions of readers the world round. Read it, laugh and crash your head onto the table before you cry, "Bridget Jones is me!"

As far as chick lit goes, I thought the book was ok... The journal entry figures were cute at first, but I thought got tired after a bit, over used maybe. Mentioned her friends here and there, but did not develop their stories. If not a bookring, I probably would not have finished it.
But, a 10 in being my first bookring! Will email TX for next addy today!

I loved it! I've seen the movie on TV (the edited version, need to rent the real one now), and the book was great! I laughed, I had a blast! Now I need the next one! I added a postcard too and left the other ones.

Put in the mail today to cosmic-gin! Should be there in about a week. I paid the extra few dollars, since I thought 4 to 6 weeks was absolutely ridiculous!

Great read .. really enjoyed the book! Like most, I found the movie hysterical due to the 'boys' fighting and rivalry etc ... cracks me up each time I think about it .. haha!! But as always, the book is better than the movie in my opinion :)

Posted today and it's on the way to Prov1634!!
