A seriously good book, anbd strangely enough, it actually has some serious stuff to say about management and principles that really work in the workplace... this is very much worth reading for anyone that has ever worked in an office - and even moreso if you work in an IT-related field.

Laugh out loud stuff as Scott Adams lampoons modern management techniques :-)

So good in fact that im starting a bookring for it.. Each person, after they have read, PM's the next on the list to find out their details and sends it on. When the last person on the ring finishes the book, they post it back to me.

Ahh, Dilbert. It's not a comic strip, it's a documentary. Still, I'm thinking that Scott Adams is getting ever more cynical in his old age! Luckily, I am too, so I found this book very very funny. (I'm an IT person who chucked it in and became an artist.)

Posted to Wirigerie in South Australia today.

The chapter on teams and team work was very reminicent of my company (scary!) and I thought the management could learn a lot from the last chapter... especially the dress code bit.
I've always asked what difference does it make what I wear when no one ever sees me. (God forbid a customer actually speak to a programmer!)

An enjoyable read. Thanks Neerav for starting this ray.

Turned up in the mail today! (Actually, it literally only just turned up. I'm working from home today and was just pottering to the kitchen for yet another cup of tea, when I saw the postie turn up. He barely managed to stuff the parcel in the letterbox when I walked outside to get it!)

And it's got some fabulous Dilbert bookmarks from wirigerie! Thanks heaps, they're brilliant. (Now to decide which one to keep and which one to pass on... I'll try and get them scanned as well, so people can see what they look like.)

Thanks neerav for starting this ring! I'll read the book asap.

First, I must apologise for taking so long to read this book! Lots of excuses, all really boring, so I won't go into them here. But I have finished it, I have charmedwitch23's address, and it shall be popped in the mail asap!

I have to say that I didn't find this as funny as I thought I was going to. I'm a big fan of the Dilbert comic strip (like most people in IT, the Dilbert website is an addiction up there with that first cup of coffee in the morning), but I found this just cut too close to the bone, I think. I spent more time wincing rather than laughing.

And I'm very glad I've never worked for a large american corporation. They sound just plain appalling. And what is the United Way???

I absolutely loved his description of how he would run a company at the end of the book. I work a strict 9-to-5 (small child to ferry to and from daycare, and extra fees [not to mention guilt!] on picking your child up late from daycare means that I have to work a strict 9-to-5) and I wear jeans and t-shirts (I don't see the clients, they don't see me, I can't see the point of dressing up; luckily 90% of my workmates agree so I don't stand out!) and they are two of the main reasons why I stick with my current job. Being family-friendly and flexible about silly things makes a world of difference in keeping your workers happy and productive!

Now to do something about that Project From Hell...

Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! The disorganisation demon got hold of me last week and I've only just popped this book in the post to charmedwitch23. My apologies to all.

[Oh, and I worked out what to do about the Project From Hell. I walked off it. Feeling much better about life now...]

Hmm, and I should upload the scanned images of the bookmarks that Wirigerie sent along as well! Watch this space! (btw, I took the Dogbert one, and sent the Alice one along to CharmedWitch23.)

Feeewwww, lucky I am last on this list. My fiance finally read this after sitting on it for ages! I had a spew at him for it. He said he's sorry. He read it and liked it a lot I think. Neerav, do you want this back now or may I keep it a while longer to read it too? No probs if you want it back.

Well, I finally finished this book a while ago now. It was good. I found it funnier than I thought I would seeing as I dont and never have worked in an office. I liked it all. Thanks Neerav for sending this out and thanks to those ahead of me for passing it along. As requested by Neerav I shall release this (via remote control) in an office.
