I found this book quite funny. It's a really strange thing to do.

I posted it to dschinny in Germany on 28/7/04.

The book arrived safely in Hamburg yesterday. Thanks a lot ReetPetite.
As suggested I will start a ring with this book once I'm through with it.

Tony Hawks made a bet - when he was drunk - to hitch hike around Ireland in the company of a fridge... Well, the Britts are betting men, aren't they? Never would he have imagined that one day the fridge wouldn't be so much a hinderance but an asset.

A hilarious read! While reading some parts of the book I had tears in my eyes - from laughing... I think to fulfil a "mission" like this successfully is only possible in Ireland!

Will offer it as a bookring in Germany as there is an international one going on already.

Arrived today, and I just ended another book, so I can start "Round Ireland with a Fridge" immediately.

The book safely arrived. Looks like reading it will be a great pleasure.
I bet it won't take long ;-)

It seems as if there was a spell on this very copy: I got it, then I forgot it.
I remembered it during my holidays, started reading, put the book in a place which I also forgot. ( No, I didn't put it in my fridge ) After having been reminded I gladly pass it on to Hank Chinaski - if I could only remember to put it in the mailbox.

Mailed December, 3rd, 2004.

Came with the mail today, thanks very much. As chance would have it, a copy of the German translation arrived yesterday as another bookring. I'm gonna read it in English now and save the German copy for looking up difficult passages.

As a result of a drunken night, Tony bets he can hitch around Ireland with a fridge within 1 month's time. The task is greatly facilitated by a national radio programme, who fancy the idea and supply their listeners with daily updates on Tony's progress. As a result, it turns out that the fridge rather boosts his chances for getting lifts instead of cutting them down, with everybody eager to help him along, buy him beers or offering him a bed for the night. In the end, Tony not only wins his bet, but also gains some new insights on life philosophy.

It took me some time to warm up with Tony's comedy style, but the more I read the better I liked it. A number of events reminded me of my own experiences when hitching in Ireland nearly 20 years ago (without a fridge, though:-)). And thanks to Tony, I learned one or two new meanings of 'being in the doghouse' (*gg*).

... well, you have to say it's a completely purposeless idea, but a damn fine one. Now, coming to think of it, couldn't you say just the same about bookcrossing?

Sent on to te-sa by snailmail. Enjoy!

YES! - I'd really been looking forward to this ring + it reached me safely yesterday. Unlike the previous reader, it took me no time at all to "warm up with Tony's comedy style" as it is exactly what I needed right now. :o) Sleep deprivation kept me from reading more than half of it so far...

Ahem - sorry for the long wait. Read it once rather quickly, then started it a second time + got stalled somewhere in the middle. BUT: A couple of days ago the book finally got on it's way to salsasalsa.

"Life is a mystery to be lived, not a problem to be solved." - How very true!

Journal Entry 14 by salsasalsa from Duisburg, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Friday, April 29, 2005
arrived today

thanks for this book!
it sounds very funny
I´m looking forward to read this book, but first I have to read another bookring.

Journal Entry 15 by salsasalsa from Duisburg, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Thursday, May 19, 2005

Later I write more about the book.
sorry now time at the moment.

Yesterday I sent it to Kerstin-S

Journal Entry 16 by Kerstin-S from Kaarst, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Saturday, May 28, 2005
The book arrived safely last Tuesday.

June, 9th 2005

I simply loved this book. You do need to sort of "lean back" and let Tony just ramble on about his experiences, so it's not like reading a "normal book". But it is very funny and it makes me want to travel around Ireland again.
It also makes you want to go to the nearest "Irish Pub" and have a Guinness.
Tony does spend a lot of time in pubs...

Journal Entry 17 by Kerstin-S from Kaarst, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Monday, June 13, 2005
The book is on its way to antuntun!

Journal Entry 18 by antuntun on Wednesday, June 22, 2005
The book arrived today -- although the street name was missing in the address :)
I'll do my best to read it as fast as possible.

Journal Entry 19 by antuntun on Friday, August 12, 2005
I like english humor! Very funny story, I enjoyed reading about the result of the absurd bet. I think in the future I'll show more respect to fridges...

Journal Entry 20 by Lys-is-trata from Wulfsen, Niedersachsen Germany on Monday, August 22, 2005
Lag nach der Heimkehr aus dem Wochenende in meinem Briefkasten. Muß noch ein wenig warten. Vielen Dank für den Ring und für's Schicken.

edit 25.10.05
Sorry, for the German entry. It reached me after my return from the weekend. Still has to wait a bit. Thanks a lot for the ring and sending same to me.

As I am the last one in this ring, I hope it does not matter if I will keep it for somewhat longer. Dschinny, if you want it back, just tell me and I'll hand it over, okay?

Journal Entry 21 by Lys-is-trata from Wulfsen, Niedersachsen Germany on Friday, January 13, 2006
For some reason or the other, this book did not tempt me any more when I had received it. I always put it further down in my huge mount of books without ever reading it. And always thought that I would do it sooner or later. And of course, I knew I was the last on the list and pushing it back would not make much difference.

So, now Dschinny wants it back, I still have not read it. Nevertheless, thanks for the ring and hopefully others will be more successful.

Journal Entry 22 by wingdschinnywing from Flensburg, Schleswig-Holstein Germany on Wednesday, January 25, 2006
It's back! Thanks everyone!

Klasse, nun werde ich es auch lesen können! Und auch noch im Original. Vielen Dank!

Now I can finally read it! Thanks a lot!

Journal Entry 25 by Susammelsurium from Hamburg - Barmbek, Hamburg Germany on Tuesday, June 20, 2006
I absolutely loved it! I, too, felt the urge to enter the nearest Irish pub I could find... and I had problems when reading the book whilst traveling by train – I drew quite a lot of attention by giggling most of the time I was reading.

Thank you very much indeed!

Journal Entry 26 by Geegal on Thursday, June 22, 2006
I've been meaning to read this book. Picked it up at tonight's meet up!
