Lillian Bailey married James Manville at the tender age of 17+ and from then on, she led a very sheltered life, very much controlled by her husband and yet at the same time, loved. But it all ended after sixteen years of marriage when her billionaire husband died and left all his wealth and assets to two people he most despised and to Lillian, just a dilapidated farmhouse and a note asking her to find out the truth that had happened and that no matter what, he loves her.

In a way, it's both a sad and happy story. Jimmie, Lillian's late husband, is not a very good man and very selfish, he keeps Lillian all to himself and he kept her fat and uninformed so she'll stay with him and to be forever dependent on him.

But on his death, Jimmie's attorney (thank goodness for this very loyal friend) helped her escaped the media circus who would have eaten her alive, and to move to the farmhouse. There Lillian, now known as Bailey James, led a rather peaceful life while she tries to find out the history of the farmhouse Jimmie left her and the background of the husband she never knew. She made new friends, got to know some old ones better, met a good man and established her own life and solve the mysteries of her husband and the old farmhouse.

Quite an intriguing read except for the part of the cousins Janice and Patsy who never spoke a word to each other. Initially when I met them, I thought one of them was a ghost since they told Bailey that there's only two of them in the room instead of three. Rather weird but I got over it soon.

Thanks for sharing this book with me! It started a little slow for me but it eventually captured my attention and I couldn't put it down. It was amazing how things that happened in the past, affected the storyline. Very enjoyable book.
