This the debut novel for Clemence Michallon and, although her writing style is very clipped, it worked perfectly for this book, dove-tailing smoothly into the storyline adding even more tension and drama to the read. Quite breathtaking in parts, definitely worth reading.

The woman is handcuffed in the shed, waiting for him to come with food, and for him to do his business with her. She does not know how long she has been here, but it has been years, living in fear for her life. Then his wife dies, and he and his 13 year old daughter are forced to move. He has no choice but to bring her, he tells her name is Rachel, and she is to say she is a friend of the family who has fallen on hard times. She is handcuffed to the bed all day whilst he is at work, but he lets her out to eat and to shower. He comes across as a caring, family man, Aiden Thomas, but no one knows about her being imprisoned and all the other women he has killed. She needs to plan her escape very carefully. A clever psychological thriller
