From the back of the book: "In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon – when she innocently touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach – an "outlander" – in a Scotland torn by war and raiding boder clansin teh year of our Lord . . . 1743."

Journal Entry 3 by Sherria from Stamford, Connecticut USA on Sunday, September 19, 2004
Thank you so much for sharing this book with me! This author has been recommended to me by several people and I'm looking forward to exploring her work. Bookcrossing has introduced me to so many new authors/books, and there are such generous people here. This is going in Mt. TBR at the moment, because a bunch of rings/rays have landed here all at once. I plan to read it soon, though, then release it. Thanks again for the trade Dagny!

Journal Entry 4 by Sherria from Stamford, Connecticut USA on Thursday, May 26, 2005
FINALLY found time to read this book - it's a long one (850 pages in the mass market paperback!), so I wanted to be able to invest enough time in it once I started. This book started out slowly, so I put it aside for another time the first couple of attempts at reading it. I guess this was the right time for it, because after I pushed through the first 100 or so pages I got caught up in it. I enjoyed the characters Gabaldon created, though they're pretty "standard" romance-type book characters. Still, I found myself cheering on the good guys and wishing ill on the bad guys, so I obviously felt some kind of connection with them. The plot was also rather predictable, which was a disappointment since the premise seemed reasonably unique. Gabaldon managed to suck me into the story with excellent pacing - the chapters were just long enough, and I found myself needing to start the NEXT chapter just to see how things progressed. In the later parts of the book there just wasn't a *good* time to put the story down, even though I had a fair idea how things would turn out. Overall, I enjoyed this book for it's escapist attributes - it was nice to just vanish into another world where you know things will eventually turn out all right, with a few interesting twists along the way. I'm going to look for the next in the series. Thanks for sharing this one with me Dagny!

Journal Entry 7 by ILuvToRead2 from Chicago, Illinois USA on Friday, April 04, 2008

This book is so popular and I heard so many great recommendations for it that I was really looking forward to reading it. Unfortunately, I really disliked it. I thought it was going to be more about time travel, but it is really more of a romance. A pretty annoying and violent one at that. If you are looking for a good time travel/love story I would recommend Time and Again by Jack Finney or The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenburger instead. But this book is quite popular so I will release it into the wild knowing somebody will enjoy it. If you like it, I think there are 5 more books in this saga . . . .
