Now, I'm by no means what you'd call a Star Trek freak. That title would be more appropriate for my wife Synergy. heehee. HEY! She can recite all the dialogue for all the even numbered ST movies, or so she says, so back off! heehee.

Anyway, I do enjoy the series, and my favourite character of all time is Q. He's smug, he's arrogant, he's a genuine prick, but he's also omnipotent and can back up his arrogance. So when I saw this book, told by Q himself, well.....I just couldn't resist. Who can write Q better than John De Lancie, the actor that played him.

I'm not going to reveal the plot, but I will say that this book is so good because Q is teamed up with Picard and Picard's "personal computer" Data. The witty banter and heated exchanges of Picard and Q are expanded upon from the series, and the results are hillarious! I found myself laughing out loud a LOT!

Definitely a good book, and a nice, easy enjoyable read.

I have to say that among the characters introduced in ST TNG I really enjoyed the flair and playfulness(?) of Q. So when I saw my husband pick up this book from a book sale, I knew I was going to have to snag it once he was done with it.

What's great is that John De Lancie was so great at the character that there's no way that anyone else could EVER play Q. Well except for the other actors who played Q. hehe If you've never seen ST or haven't read this book, then at this point you have no idea what I'm going on about. lol

Anyway, I loved that the whole time that I was reading this book I could hear De Lancie's voice in my head with every biting comment and every unvoiced evil thought. hehe And I have to say that the writing was very true to character. The adventure was a worthy one and didn't disappoint even though it leaned towards the symbolic and psychological. Well, I shouldn't say that because in a way all things related to Q are mind games.

The story also includes his family, which, if you've read another Q book, "Q Squared," you've met Q jr. This book also introduces "Lady Q" which of course he very snootily lets everyone know that he only calls her that so as to not confuse the small-minds that can't keep up with all his kind being called Q.

But the main conflict is just that, you know, a "Maelstrom" is eating the multiverse and it may be The End of Times. That's all. Oh and Q thinks he can put a stop to it so he can save his family which has been sucked up by this Maelstrom.

And he calls humanity overconfident! Such arrogance that there's no beings older and more powerful than the Continuum! bwahahaha

Back to the husband's bookshelf it goes.
