Synopsis for Book 3:

ALEXANDRIA 46 BC

Cleopatra - seventh of her name, avatar of the goddess Isis, ruler of the Kingdom of Egypt - reigns from her palaces of Alexandria, surrounded by riches untold. Through the streets of her great city bustle scholars and sailors, politicians and priests. For those with the means, it is a comfortable life.

But not all those in Egypt's first city are so fortunate. For the peasants and farmers, their lives lie in the hands of the gods and the harvest. Unless, that is, they can find other methods to feed their families. Other, less savoury methods...

When a beloved actress disappears on the eve of a great performance, Cleopatra orders Tetisheri, her trusted Eye of Isis, to investigate. She must unravel a mystery that leads to the city's darkest corners in order to discover the truth.

Found this one the most interesting of the three books. It felt more like the adventure I was looking for.

Fantastic Fiction recently announced that there will be a Book 4 in this series, it comes out in 2025. Not sure if I'll continue to read this series or not, just have to see how I feel nearer the time.

It feels like Stabenow is really getting into her stride with this light crime/historical series with this, the third book. It sees a bit of adventure and fighting with them sailing down to Memphis to investigate the case of a missing actress/singer. I can't say I know a lot about the society of ancient Egypt but it sometimes felt like modern day sensibilities and standards were being put on the characters. No matter. Its an entertaining crime/adventure story. I can't say it's grabbed me the same way the Kate Shugak series has and I doubt I would feel the same need to read anymore. The way it finishes, it could neatly end as a trilogy.

But thank-you Ythan for setting up this trilogy ring and the chance to try something a bit different by Stabenow.
