I thought this was a fictional novel and then I read the back cover. Sounds disturbing to say the least but it sounds really interesting. Here's what amazon.com says:
With an extraordinary talent for staring evil dead in the eye, New York Times bestselling author and journalist Aphrodite Jones plunges readers into the front lines of a modern nightmare.
On November 25, 1996, in their home in the lakeside community of Eustis, Florida, Rick and Ruth Wendorf were savagely beaten to death with a tire iron. The Wendorfs' new Ford Explorer was stolen, but this was no routine robbery gone bad. This was a crime carried out by one Roderick Ferrell, a sixteen-year-old self-avowed Antichrist. His human sacrifice was a testament to the unique and sinister bond of four brainwashed teens. Heather Wendorf was a straight "A" student, a petite blonde with wide-set brown eyes. Yet she had been heard to wish her parents "off the face of the planet." Heather never dreamed that when she joined her friends for a joyride one fall evening, her wish had already come true.
Including exclusive interviews with every living character involved in the case, The Embrace will forever change the way we look at one of the fastest-growing religious movements in the country, and its most vulnerable fold: our children.

I moved this up the list because someone requested I send it to them and I'm glad I did. I don't, for the life of me, remember hearing about any of these 'events' and was surprised that I missed it - considering that it was a media spectacle. I started reading this work of nonfiction and from the beginning I was hooked. Ms. Jones manages to write in a format that makes this read more like a novel rather than an insigt into true events. One of the reasons I was so hooked by this book is because I could relate to some of what was going on. No, I never drank blood or killed anyone but I can relate with some of the other details - the fascination with vampires, the music and literature choices and the feelings of emptyness, loss and confusion. Most disturbing of all is that this really hapenned.
A must read for fans of true fiction and those interested in stranger than fiction events.

Sent this to the FABUOLOUS davenred! Enjoy! :)
After a mishap from Canada Post...themarina was so kind as to send me this book. It looks really cool, and can't wait to read it. I will review when I eventually get through it. Thanks so much!
Well, this book looked really good, and I finally got to it. It is very well researched and well written, but it freaked me out a little too much when the descriptions of the teens drinking each other''s blood becoming more and more of an obsession got to me...I guess with my spiritual beliefs, it was too much of a clash. I had to stop reading it because it was getting to me...becuase I have been seeing a lot of this exact thing going on in the area where I live. It will be moving along today.
I found the book while waiting in the Arrivals area at Pearson International Airport in Toronto, My daughter and her husband were flying in from Vancouver. I was surprised when my wife pointed the book out and asked me to read the label inside the book. What a great idea! After I read it, I''ll release it so someone can enjoy it. Thanks BookCrossing.com!
I didn't really enjoy Aphrodite Jones' writing- it was too reporterish. I realize she did lots of research but she did not give the story-telling any flair.
