I was excited to find this in the bargain room at Black Bond Books. I've only ever heard about Carole Pope from others and can't wait to get to this!

Here's what amazon.com has to say:

Known for their sexual lyrics and provocative act, Carole Pope and Rough Trade ushered Canada from the punk movement of the 1970s to the new wave sound of the 1980s and vaulted themselves into the international music scene. Attracting what she calls "a diversified audience, and other artists who were practising their own forms of nihilism," Pope learned how to preen with the best of them and let the raunch shine through.

Anti Diva is a great title for this autobiography because there is no other Canadian artist as Anti Diva as Carole. She became an icon of Canadian music in the 70s and 80s and has managed to retain her no-hostages approach to life.

Unfortunately, the name dropping, gossip and pure joy of learning about her life and the juicy details of other stars (many Canadian and many others too!). The bio is written based on events and important people in Carole's life causing chaos trying to figure out what year and, in some parts, what decade her 'clip' was taking place. This is also not a suggested read for those easily offended. Pope, in her infamous style, perppers this story with profanity and sexuality that is sometimes startling. The clearest part of this bio is the last chapter in which she vents (this is also where her best ideas are put forward).

A good read for fans and a good intro for those who are curious about Canada's music business from the 60's to today. It's all here.

It was lying around in the staff room along with three or four other BookCrossing books (I work in a bookstore) and I thought, Hey, neat! I think I'll read it! Even though I have no idea who Carole Pope is!

So I did. It was like a crash course for the seventies and eighties. Fast paced, fascinating... lots of sex... I didn't mind the loose chronology, I thought it worked for the book.
