I'm lending this book to my Mom, who is looking for good "beach reading" to take on an upcoming trip to Mexico. (I thought the book might enjoy a little trip, too...). I've finally had a chance to start reading Tears of the Giraffe, and I'm enjoying it very much -- it's providing me with a much-needed respite from the emotional violence of the Christmas season!

This is the second book in this series (following The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency). Here's a link to a Reading Group Guide for this book.

Like kelwood, I enjoyed Tears of the Giraffe even more than No. 1 Ladies. I found myself letting go of the critique of these books I had in mind at the conclusion of Ladies (set out, for anyone who cares, in the journal entry linked to my last post), and appreciating them more for what they are – gentle, descriptive fables about life in contemporary Botswana. The "traditionally built" Precious Ramotswe has definitely found a place in my heart, and I look forward to spending more time with her in future installments.
