Journal Entry 1 by lellie from Trimley St Mary, Suffolk United Kingdom on Wednesday, May 19, 2004
It seems to me from reading other reveiws that this book falls into the love or loathe category. Me, I loved it. From the very first chapter when Dr Iannis cures Stamatis deafness by removing a pea from his ear I was hooked. I've spent quite a lot of time on the Ionian islands and have friends in Corfu, so it was very easy for me to place myself on Cephalonia, perhaps that helped. But anyway I am so glad I read this book. It is very life affirming.

Always sad when I can't get into a book. I will search for a new home for it.

I really enjoyed this book, it was sometimes funny and sometimes sad. At first it went a bit slow and I wondered when this Captain Corelli would appear, and after about 100 pages did his name turn up.. but once I got into it, I could hardly stop reading. I like the writing style of the auteur, though I had to get used to it in the beginning. The book will soon be on its way to the UK.
