It was a good story, a bit seedy, and most of the characters were very unpleasant but it certainly packed a punch. The book is described as a Lynley novel, but why? He didn't really have that much input to the investigation. In fact he sounded a bit wet throughout. The most interesting character, as always, was DS Barbara Havers who is a far bigger personality and more or less cracked the case through her own stentorian efforts.
