Thank goodness for Ruth, Nelson & Co! After some disappointing reads lately which have left me feeling like I've lost my reading mojo "The Locked Room" has seen me happily back with old friends who have never let me down. Here we see our familiar & well-loved characters enduring the impact of COVID & the lockdown of 2020. Griffiths does a great job of evoking the atmosphere of a time still fresh in our minds with the feelings of isolation, the worries & the general frustrations of living under the new rules - & the side story of the plague pits parallels nicely with it.
As I've said before...many, many, times...this series is more about the characters for me than the mystery. The mystery here is the apparent suicide of a woman which Judy is suspicious of. It's a good enough storyline, which moves on okay but one that is rather over shadowed by the arrival of a new neighbour next door to Ruth... but as I said, it's more about the characters than the mystery....
Without giving anything away (I hope!) COVID rears its ugly head in a very worrying way & consequently a sleepless night occurred as I had to know the outcome. Suffice to say I was engrossed right to the conclusion which has left me DESPERATE to know what's coming next....
