Big and beautiful? Or thin and miserable? Jay has always envied her cousin Delphine. While Jay was brought up in a large, noisy and chaotic family, Delphine was indulged, perfectly dressed with a co-ordinated bedroom, an immaculate wardrobe, dancing lessons and monogrammed silver-backed hairbrushes. Now Jay lives happily with her architect husband and their three teenage children, running a successful cleaning company and trying to keep some kind of order on her disorderly household, while Delphine has long since disappeared to Australia with her second husband. But Jay does sometimes wonder whether she should be more like her cousin - utterly well-organised and with a size ten figure. So Jay decides to diet. But what should it be? High carb, no protein? High protein, no carb? High fibre? Wheat free? Fat free? Food free? She tries them all, with a variety of successes and failures. But then Delphine reappears, with a third husband in prospect and the same old air of apparently effortless superiority. Jay never considers that perhaps Delphine is the envious one...

In the process of reading but I'm sending as a bookray once finished.

I've just finished reading this book and I quite enjoyed it, I could definitely relate to Jay with her constant dieting, and her "I'll diet again tomorrow" motto! So like me!

Just waiting to hear from the first person on the ray, and then it's on its way. Enjoy!

I hadn't read anything by this author before & enjoyed it a lot :) I finished it in a couple of days & found it amusing that the teenage children were embaressed by their sucessful, happy parents as they didn't fit in at school!

Will look out for more by Judy Astley. Thanks Julie :)

Will PM next person on the list for their address.

Journal Entry 16 by talodi from Darlington, County Durham United Kingdom on Saturday, January 1, 2005
A good easy to read book with the right level of humour mixed in with drama. I thoroughly enjoyed this, but's definitel not for the more 'serious' reader.

Journal Entry 17 by Kleptokitty on Wednesday, February 9, 2005
I've never read a Judy Astley book & wouldn't normally pick them up. However, this one's been recommended to me so I'm pleased it's here.

I've had no less than THREE ring books all arrive in this morning's post, so I'm going to toss a coin in a while as a totally democratic way of seeing which gets to the front of the queue!

Journal Entry 18 by Kleptokitty on Saturday, February 12, 2005
Having spent the entire day reading in bed, I've managed to get through all of my Ring books :-)

I enjoyed this far more than I was expecting to. The characters were easy to relate to and I thought the author tackled the dieting theme with healthy realism.

Overall a quick and enjoyable light read, with a decent amount of humour thrown in.

Off to Katybean on Monday.

Katybean

Journal Entry 20 by katybean from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, February 22, 2005
I really enjoyed this book, and got into the characters very easily. I found the ending a bit short, and would liked to have known more about Delphines hubbys business interests!!

This is the first book I've read by Judy Astley, but will definately put some others of hers on my wish list.

I pm'd paperclip for their address on the 19th Feb, so as soon as I get a reply I'll send the book onto them!

Thanks for sharing!

Although I enjoyed the funny storyline, I found it weak and without substance. I prefer meatier books where the characters become like my friends and I am disappointed to finish the book.....
