Description inside the book: "It's Washington D.C.; it's the last night of the year, and people are dying ...
At 9 am on New Year's Eve a man gets onto the packed escalator of a metro station and fires a silenced machine gun into the crowd. He escapes without being spotted in the confusion caused by the horror of this vicious attack, which leaves dozens of people killed and injured.
One hour later, a note is delivered to the mayor: twenty million dollars, or the writer will instruct the killer to strike again; at 4 pm, at 9 pm, at midnight ... hundreds more will die.
The money has to be found, the ransom will have to be paid. But then a hit-and-run victim is identified as the mastermind behind the operation, and suddenly there's no way of stopping the psychotic gunman killing again, and again, and again ...
The only thing the FBI have to go on is the note. Parker Kincaid, forensic document expert, and agent-in-charge, Margaret Lukas, could be the only people who can stop the killer."

This thriller does not belong to Jeffery Deaver's "Lincoln-Rhyme-Series", but it will nonetheless keep you reading thru the night ...

THE DEVIL'S TEARDROP is a suspense/thriller that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the ups and downs of a roller coaster ride. Deaver lets your imagination work as you try to figure out his villain. You think you know who the mastermind is, but do you really? You will want to know what happens next as each chapter leaves you wanting more. The Digger who is he really?
The Digger looks like you, the Digger looks like me. He walks down the wintry streets the way anybody would, shoulders drawn together against the damp December air...Maybe he's fat, maybe he's thin. Looking like you, looking like me. Nobody ever notices the Digger and that's one of the reasons he's so very good at what he does....

Thanks again for the book! Deaver becomes definitely one of my favourite thriller writers.

puuuuhhhh... I just finished reading it this moment. I have to admit, I didn't care too much for the story in the beginning. It all seemed too cold somehow, devoid of feelings.

But then I was sucked in the maze deeper and deeper and got more fascinated by each chapter. It was sort of a spiral, which was slow in the beginning but then took up speed until it was like a whirlpool or better a whirligig.

The Devil's Teardrop kept me on the edge and I liked the story pretty good. The typically Deaver twist at the end was great. Definitely can recommend this book.
