A talented midwife is arrested for murder when she saves a baby by performing a Caesarean section once she believes the mother has died--only to have her assistant insist later that the woman was still very much alive. Told in the mesmerizing voice of the midwife's daughter, Midwives depicts the aftermath of the tragedy.

One of my favorit books. This is my second copy of it. I wanted to be able to share this one, so it's reserved for wild release.

I picked this up at the Memorial Day Mass Release and forgot to journal on it. Sorry, First-Noel! This is such an amazing book, I'm thinking of buying a copy for my permanent collection. I'm not a mother (nor plan to be one for a while) but this excellent book certainly taught me a lot about motherhood and labor. Wonderfully written. Really, I can't say enough good things about Midwives. Will be releasing to a friend for her to read...

Wonderful page turner about midwives in general and one in particular. When she experiences a "bad outcome" in one of her deliveries, she becomes subject to the legal system where her career becomes scrutinized by everyone.

It's narrated by the midwife's teenaged daughter, which is so interesting because the author of this tale is a man. He does a great job unfolding the story so that the reader becomes surprised along with the viewers in the courtroom. However, the courtroom drama is almost secondary to how the events change the people involved. I will definitely be looking for more of this author's books.

There's a neat interview of the author telling why and how he wrote this book. Very interesting. Thanks to chattergirl for letting me read it.

There's alot of people interested in this book. Between chattergirl and I there are three so far. If you want to be on the list, let me know. It will be worth the wait.
