I had this book on my wish list for a while, until I found it at a booksale, in brand new condition for just 50 cents! Wahoo!

And, it was soooo much better than I thought it would be. I thought I'd be mildly entertained, but it turned out the story was actually very well written, poignantly told, first with a wit that made me laugh out loud, and finally with enough angst to make me really angry by two thirds of the way through! Oh, but a good resolution at the end. Couldn't have ended a story like that any better, I don't think. I couldn't put it down and read it over a single weekend.

This is the story of a college girl named Nanny, whose entrusted to take care of the wealthy family X'es four year old boy, Grayer, in their swank Manhattan apartment.

I guess I liked it so much because I could totally relate to Nanny. I've had some Mrs. X's in my life, too. And I handled it just like Nanny did...just trying to do a good job and do the right thing in spite of the b.s. -- only to be unappreciated by a bunch of narcissitic losers! The little boy was painted very realistically, too, as I am at this time raising my own 4-year old boy. Yup, that's about right!

Nanny was a real person, with real reactions, and yet she totally maintained her dignity. I was really rooting for her, and I hope she, as fictitious as she is, goes on to great things.

My only question is, how is she going to find an apartment in Manhattan that she can afford, and now with a puppy? Something's gonna have to give...

After reading all the reviews readers have been giving this book, and now that it's being made into a movie, I must confess I was very curious to read this book. Now that I have, I can say it was okay- certainly not the best, certainly not the worst.

I picked this up at the Mason book exchange today. I didn't know it was a Bookcrossing book. I have already read another copy. I intended to share this one via wild release or maybe at our next Bookcrossing meet-up. I really liked this book when I read it. The authors were not as successful with there follow up book, Citizen Girl I believe it was called. It got bad review and I would have to agree with them. In The Nanny Diaries however, I felt a lot of compassion for the main character and the little boy she was in charge of babysitting.

I finished reading the book today. I agree a lot with jenn7747's review. I thought the book started off good and funny, but as it wore on I just felt bad for everyone involved and sad that this is probably way too close to reality. However, it did provide a good break for me reading-wise since it was an easy chicklit read. It'll be available until I can release it.
