Fascinating book. We see inside the head of Stevens, a butler during the inter-war period. What he doesn't tell us about himself is as revealing as what he does. I can't recommend this enough!

This is one of the reasons I love bookcrossing. I would never have picked up this book otherwise and but having read it it was one of the most stunning and beautiful books I've read for a long time. It tells the story of a butler to a large country house in the early part of the 20th century and everyone should read this!

I'm undecided about this. It was an interesting story and the way Stevens' character unfolds through the drive west was fascinating. He ultimately came across as a lonely man, unable to see much beyond himself.
