Feel sorry for me as I whine about my life as I blame others while playing victim seems to be the theme for this book. This book tells the story of a single mom who is struggling to raise her daughter. She blames the welfare system for keeping her poor and in her place. Yet no one working 24-26 hours a week can earn enough to support themselves. Did she really expect to do that?

Ms. Land was in her late 20's when she got pregnant. What was she doing up to this point in her life?

One of the things that bothered me and didn’t seem to be coordinate with the entire story. The author plays the domestic violence card, where the only violence that the man committed was punching out a window with anger. She leaves her daughter in the care of the biological father, which really surprised me given the fact that throughout the book she questions his ability to parent. After the ex appears to establish a bond with Mia, Ms Land decides to move to a different state.

Another thing that bothered me was that she was struggling so much yet she bought herself a diamond ring with some of her tax return. She, also, took a vacation without her daughter leaving Mia with her father.

I felt that she was envious of her clients. I guess that is natural, but with about 10 years after high school, she doesn’t appear to have done anything to establish any career goals.
