Blurb taken from back cover: "My name was Salmon, like the first; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973. My murderer was a man from our neighborhood. My mother liked his border flowers,a nd my father talked to him once about fertilizer.
"This is Susie Salmon, speaking to us from heaven. It looks a lot like her school playground, witht he good kind of swing sets. There are counsellors to help newcomers to adjust, and friends to room with. Everything she wants appears as soon as she thinks of it -- except the thing she wants most: to be back with the people she loved on Earth."
If you've seen this book around, read the reviews or seen the title crop up again and again on bookcrossing.com, then you don't need me to tell you what a little masterpiece it is. The author takes us through the lives and minds of everybody touched by the tragedy of Susie Salmon's disappearance. There is grief, curiosity and the passing lust of her killing--all are on display and no emotion is flinched at. Yet there is a tenderness underlying the horror that manages to allow us to understand and process the grief as Susie's family finally does. Enjoy!
