7 out of 10

This is a book I have read and enjoyed. When I went into a charity shop to get a couple of titles for Bookcrossing, I was delighted to find it.

It's worth putting any preconceptions about Ben Elton to one side while you read it, too. It's a pretty competent murder mystery, based on the concept of a Big Brother reality-style TV show gone horribly wrong. I will say no more for fear of spoiling the plot.

I didn't really want to read it, but it was pressed into my hand by my Bookcrossing friend Rand0m, who in contrast to me is a BIG fan of reality TV shows. I thought I would hate it, but I found it gripping. I actually read most of it in a hotel in Akureyri, Iceland, last May while the sun refused to set.

This is destined for the OBCZ in Basingstoke, a town that I worked in for a short time and actually found to be considerably nicer than people think. Plus, I've been to two great Human League gigs there. That seems like reason enough to me...

This particular copy was bought second-hand today in Kingston-upon-Thames, and I shall leave in the back the Oyster Box Hotel, Umhlanga Rocks, Natal, South Africa postcard that came with it, as it hints at such a gloriously interesting past.
