Middlesex : A Novel

This is a wonderfully written book--I can see why it received the Pulitzer Prize. Told by a man who was raised as a girl, it tells a lot about hermaphrodites, but there are a lot of other stories told within this story. It tells of his ancestors' emigration to America from Greece, and of their settling in Detroit. It starts in the 1920's with prohibition, goes through the birth of the auto industry, and tells of the 1967 race riots. I enjoyed that part of the story because I was born in Detroit, and grew up just outside of it--I was living about 40 miles away when the race riots started, and I remember that first night like it was yesterday.
I like the author's writing style, and his vocabulary is challenging. I look forward to more books by him.
I'm loaning this book to a friend and some family members before releasing it.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
Cannot get the space to finish this book, as book club books of the month keep interfering, and Mt. TBR is growing out of all proportions. So I will pass it onto Nut who is lookig to read it, rather than have it sitting feeling neglected, and hopefully will request it back at some point in the future.

I've been interested in reading this for some time. GizmoPuddy, I didn't realise you hadn't finished it. My own Mt TBR is pretty large, so if you want it back at any stage just ask, don't wait for me to finish it. I think someone else in BCie is interested too. Possibly eefa?
Interesting perspective on a generational story, even without the intersex stuff. I want to read more of his stuff. I have the Virgin Suicides on DVD, but haven't got round to watching it yet. This encourages me to make time!
