Indistinguishable from Magic:
Arthur C. Clarke said Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. This book is a collection of essays on real future technologies that now seem magical, along with science fiction stories showing those technologies in action.
Contents:
The essays include such things as antimatter, antigravity, ways to build real starships, time travel, and a theoretical basis for life after death consistent with the known laws of physics. The latter involves the idea that matter and energy warp space and time, and therefore the patterns that represent our thoughts and memories could be impressed on the fabric of spacetime.
The stories include aliens, spacecraft, the first man to travel to another star, and the last man to die of old age.
Books by Robert L. Forward:
Dragon's Egg
Flight of the Dragonfly
Rocheworld
