I got this for exactly one zloty, converted that's about 25 cents! Anyway I have no idea if this is going to be any good and I probably won't get around to it for awhile so here's the blurb on the back of the book:

A well is poisoned by a young queen's curse.

The beautiful mansion of Sutton Place was cursed by Queen Edith five centuries before its builder was born. Now Sir Richard WEston's family must pay the price of evil that is exacted from all the Tudor manor's owners.

Sir Richard's son will die beneath and executioner's blade, his death warrant signed by Henry VIII. Anne Boleyn too will feel the scourge of destiny as she struggles for the Queen's crown.

And centuries later, press baron Lord Northcliffe and oil millionaire Paul Getty will also succumb to the drakness that evelopes all those who own the doomed manor of Sutton...

Sutton Place is the first haunting volume of Dinah Lampitt's fascinating trilogy tracing the tortured destinies of those who dared to flout the young Queen's curse.

Although I had trouble getting into the book at first, I ended up loving it! It was a really fascinating read because almost all the characters existed in real life. Which on the other hand lead to a pretty big cast of characters, and sometimes I had trouble remembering who's who. But that's probably the only negative thing I have to say about the book, everything else was great.

Sutton Place is the first book in a trilogy, and it deals with the lives of the Weston family members, mainly Sir Francis Weston. Other main characters are Henry VIII and his first and second wives, Queen Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn as well as the Duke of Norfolk and his illegitimate son Dr. Zachary. The astrologer Dr. Zachary was probably one of the few characters not based on a real person, but he was one of my favorite characters nevertheless! The events in this book take place between May 17, 1521 and May 17, 1536, except for the prologue and epilogue that are about the oil millionaire Paul Getty, and a brief glimpse of the 11th century and King Edward the Confessor and Queen Edith, who cursed Sutton Place.

The second book, The Silver Swan, is about John Weston, the last male descendant of Sir Richard Weston, and his daughter Melior Mary. It takes place during the 18th century. The third book, Fortune's Soldier, takes place in the 19th century. I'll try to get hold of those books, because I'd love to read how the story continues. I already have two other books by Dinah Lampitt, To Sleep No More and Pour the Dark Wine. The latter is about Henry VIII's 3rd wife, Jane Seymour, and Dr. Zachary is present too.

Sutton Place is historical fiction combined with supernatural elements. The characters in the book are all interesting, and the plot thickens towards the end, even though we already know from the first chapter what the end will be. All in all, a very enjoyable read, which I would definitely recommend to fans of the genre.

Reading this book inspired me to learn more about the Tudor's. Maybe I'll finally get around to reading The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory.

I will mail the book tomorrow to FieryFairy.

I'm afraid I didn't like it as much as I had hoped and in fact could not even finish it. I have a rule that if I don't like a book within the first fifty pages I discard it. Because this is a ring, I tried to finish it but I couldn't. I'm not sure why, the story line seemed interesting but that's the way it goes. Thanks for sending it to me anyway. I posted the book off a couple of days ago to Canada and it should arrive within the next few weeks.

I enjoyed the book immensely. I have not read historical fiction in a while but will search out some more. I got caught up in all the intrigue and I too liked Dr. Zachary best. Does true evil exist??

Finished this today. It was an enjoyable read. I've always been fascinated with this particular time period. Very interesting as I have recently read The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory and The Autobiography of Henry VIII by Margaret George. This was yet another perspective of Anne Boleyn.

I did find it interesting about the idea of a curse from centuries ago. That anger at one person would result in cursing generations of people. The picture is of Queen Edith.

Luckily, I am off to the post office tomorrow, so I'm including this book.

Thank you for sharing!
