Sutton Place is the first book in a trilogy, and it deals with the lives of the Weston family members, mainly Sir Francis Weston. Other main characters are Henry VIII and his first and second wives, Queen Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn as well as the Duke of Norfolk and his illegitimate son Dr. Zachary. The astrologer Dr. Zachary was probably one of the few characters not based on a real person, but he was one of my favorite characters nevertheless! The events in this book take place between May 17, 1521 and May 17, 1536, except for the prologue and epilogue that are about the oil millionaire Paul Getty, and a brief glimpse of the 11th century and King Edward the Confessor and Queen Edith, who cursed Sutton Place. The second book, The Silver Swan, is about John Weston, the last male descendant of Sir Richard Weston, and his daughter Melior Mary. It takes place during the 18th century. The third book, Fortune's Soldier, takes place in the 19th century. I'll try to get hold of those books, because I'd love to read how the story continues. I already have two other books by Dinah Lampitt, To Sleep No More and Pour the Dark Wine. The latter is about Henry VIII's 3rd wife, Jane Seymour, and Dr. Zachary is present too. Sutton Place is historical fiction combined with supernatural elements. The characters in the book are all interesting, and the plot thickens towards the end, even though we already know from the first chapter what the end will be. All in all, a very enjoyable read, which I would definitely recommend to fans of the genre. Reading this book inspired me to learn more about the Tudor's. Maybe I'll finally get around to reading The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. I will mail the book tomorrow to FieryFairy. |

I did find it interesting about the idea of a curse from centuries ago. That anger at one person would result in cursing generations of people. The picture is of Queen Edith. Luckily, I am off to the post office tomorrow, so I'm including this book. Thank you for sharing! |
