I love this book and everything about it! It's the first book in the Vorkosigan series, and it is basically a romance -- it's the story of how Miles's parents, Aral and Cordelia, got together. It's an extremely intelligent, well-written book with wit, a wonderful sense of humor, complex moral issues, intriguing characters, and a larger-than-life, just plain fun adventure. The story sucks you into a page-turning frenzy, but it also makes you think. This is a science fiction novel for people who think they don't like science fiction, as well as for long-time lovers of the genre. A+!

Unfortunatly, this particular copy of the book has a problem with the cover. The glue on the spine dried out and the cover has become detatched from the book. I'm keeping cover and book together with a rubber band.

Here's the blurb:

"It was the wrong war, in the wrong place, at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons. She even wore the wrong uniform; Cordelia Naismith, Betan Expeditionary Force, had been hurried into battle still wearing her old tan Astronomical Survey fatigues.

"Now, captain of a throwaway ship on a mission of deception, she convoys a weapon of wicked subtlety to entrap and destroy an enemy armada.

"But Cordelia will discover deeption within deception, treachery within treachery, until finally she is forced into a seperate peace with her chief opponent, Lord Vorkosigan. It is a peace that earns her only ignominy -- even though it foreshadows a new beginning, for herself, her lover, and both their peoples."
