Journal Entry 1 by spiderchic from Droylsden, Greater Manchester United Kingdom on Thursday, April 22, 2004
"When a teenage quarrel in the small town of Heartsdale explodes into a deadly shoot-out, Sara Linton - paediatrician and medical examiner - finds herself entangled in a horrific tragedy. And what seems at first to be a terrible but individual catastrophe proves to have wider implications when the autopsy reveals evidence of long-term abuse and ritualistic self-mutilation.
Sara and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver start to investigate, but the children surrounding the victim close ranks. The families turn their backs. Then a young girl is abducted, and it becomes clear that the first death is linked to an even more brutal crime. And unless Sara and Jeffrey can uncover the deadly secrets the children hide, it's going to happen again..."

What a book! I was glued to it from the start. The subject matter was disgusting, and it made it sick at times to read what was happening to these kids, and it almost made me cry to think that there really are sick people like this out there. The ending was not what I expected. There must be a sequel? Anyways, I will be looking for more karen Slaughter books- even though I lose my precious sleeping time when I have one open, lol. Sending off to spaceystacy asap.

10/31/04 Mailing shortly to Jenvince. Life got hectic during the summer and was not able to locate this one for a bit. Nice quick read. Liked the style of writing. Will read others by the same author.

This arrived today. I really like this author (thank you, Bookcrossing!), so I look forward to reading this. I have three bookrings ahead of it, so will get to it as soon as I can.

Update 12/2: Was able to start this tonight. Can already tell it's going to be good! The front section of pages is actully loose, so be careful when reading this one.

I finished this book this morning. Humph. I can definitely say I did not like how it ended. It just...ended. Actually, there wasn't really an end. Set up for a sequel, perhaps? It didn't leave me feeling satisfied. And the subject matter was difficult to read. These poor children! Whew! Am glad I am done with it. This is an author I like and will definitely read her others. But, this one was tough to read.

12/7: in the mail.
