I really loved this book and wish others to enjoy it as well!

Quote from Salman Rushdie - "Zadie Smith's fizzing first novel is about how we all got here - from the Caribbean, from the Indian sub-continent, from thirteenth place in a long-ago Olympic bicycle race - and about what "here" turned out to be. It's an astonishingly assured debut, funny and serious, and the voice has real writerly idiosyncrasy. I was delighted by White Teeth, and often impressed. It has bite"

Off the back cover:
Meet the Joneses, the Iqbals and the Chalfens. Three families at the fag end of the twentieth century, all English to varying degrees and involved in each other's lives in every conceivable way - personally, politcally, historically, genetically. Different colours, different religions and different sides of the unforgettable colonial fence, they have one thing in commmon: a small borough of North London where extremism of all kinds is the order of the day and the dilemmas of previous generations are obsessively played out in the present.

This book was definately not what I expected! I don't know how to descibe it...it was a tale of two disfunctional families...a tale of clashing cultures...a tale of friendship and love. It was intense, funny, sad and quirky. Out of all the characters I liked the easy-going, simple Archie the best. I also loved how the end of the book kind of tied up a question I had about the beginning of the book!
Anyhow, thank you for giving me the oppurtunity to read this story! I'll be sending it on to the next person in line!

Once upon a time, some time ago, this book set out on a bookring journey. For many, many days now this book has been sitting still in the care of just one bookcrosser. It is hoped that it will enjoy a little stay at the Lost Book Island.

The Lost Book Island Resort welcomes this forgotten book and gives it a place to re-energize so that it might travel once more. Even though this book will enjoy lots of fun in the sun, sand and surf its real desire is to get a new journal entry. A new journal entry that will tell all where this book has been this long lapsed time and if one day soon it will be able to return to its travels.
