I'm only on page 84 so far, but I know this book deserves a 9 at least!
Having read book one (Sorcery Rising) in this series (Fool's Gold) some eight months ago, I was delighted to get my hands on book two, even though it meant sending off for the hardback. And I hope to make up with Acanthium by sending it on to her when I have finished it! Despite the many books I have read in between I found absolutely no problem with picking up this book and getting immediately re-immersed in this complex, many faceted tale, and can only hope that the author is very speedy when writing book 3, and as many after that as she can manage.
I have just noticed that the dust cover flaps contain some info regarding the background, and about five of the main characters, so don't worry if you have somehow managed to completely forget book one before you read this one - although to forget such vivid writing is surely impossible, short of a blow to the head.
Highly recommended.

This was waiting for me when I got home yesterday evening - would have journalled it then, but I wanted to finish the book I was reading so I could start on this one! Can't wait to find out what happens - Sorcery Rising left too much hanging! I'm trying to ignore the front cover - Katla doesn't look like that in my imagination...this one's far too clean, ironed and styled for my liking!

I loved this book as much as the first. I like to imagine that I'm Katla in spirit, although I have an awful feeling I'm probably more like her mother! I did find one part of the book (with Saro's thoughts on eating meat) a tad baffling - to me it felt as if Fisher had abandoned the book, done a quick shameless commercial and then picked up the story again without so much as batting an eyelid! Perhaps others will view it differently. I understand that this was, perhaps, a vital realistation on his (Saro's) part, but it still felt unconnected to the book in some way.

Jude Fishers endings also leave a lot to be desired for those of us who are impatient - she would make a marvellous scriptwriter for a Soap Opera! Please let her publish the next book swiftly (by this, I mean NOW!) I have found, on her website, an extract from Chapter 4 of the next book (Rose of The World) here: http://www.judefisher.co.uk/extract_rotw.htm for those of us unable to wait!

It'll be in the post tomorrow Auglaise - enjoy!

I must say that if you're startled out of sleep at 8 am on a day when you don't have to be up at 8 am by the amazingly loud sound of the buzzer to your flat, then the only good that can come out of it is when you discover that on the other side of the buzzer is the postman who only rang the buzzer because of the package for you that he couldn't fit through the slot. And then the package turns out to be a book, and the entire day is made from the start. Thank you postman!

So, I got the book today. ^_^

This was a great continuation of Sorcery Rising! The only problem is is that the series isn't finished yet...which makes it difficult to read the third one and find out what happens.

I must say that I agree with Acanthium about Saro's thoughts on eating meat. While an important epiphany concerning his character, it did sort of feel like a random yet rabid push for a meatless lifestyle. But besides that, a great sequal to the first, and again leaves you wondering what's going to happen next.

I'll be posting to perfect-circle as soon as I get the address!

I only finished Sorcery Rising a few days before this turned up so it was very easy to get back into the story and I loved it. I can only hope that Fisher plans to bring the third book out very soon.

Will be passing to Jords at the weekend.
