Ooops!! Sorry. the anonymous finder above was me... I forgot to log in :P

One of the best books I've read this year. I finished it like 10 days ago but then took a short trip, so sorry for the delay.

From her spot in Heaven, Susie tells the story of the time following her mysterious dissapearance. Through her eyes, we see how the hope and uncertainty affects her family, friends and even those who barely knew her.
This is going to the USA. (Sorry for the delay, DraigAthar)

*EDIT* Sometime between the time I first posted this and now I did a complete turnabout. From loving it one of the best books I read this year, I believe it more accurate to say it's one of the FASTEST reads I've done this year. But as for quality, it really leaves a lot to be desired.

Besides, the ending just grossed me out. Looked to me like Sebold tried to pull a 'Garcia Marquez' but didn't even get close.

Just got this in the mail today, I will put it at the top of my reading list!

Journal Entry 8 by DraigAthar from Plainfield, New Hampshire USA on Wednesday, September 1, 2004
Just finished reading this book. I have mixed feelings about it. I think it was a well-written book, but I didn't actually enjoy reading it that much. Anyway, I may have to think on it a while longer before I form a proper opinion of it. I suppose that's a sign of a good book, though, when it lingers with you.

Oh, and I smiled to see that this book actually started its travels not far from me. :)

Will send on to katalirob as soon as I hear back with a shipping address.

I received this book in the mail today. I will start it as soon as I finish the book I am currently reading. I'm really looking forward to this one.

Journal Entry 10 by raralovestoread from Ponchatoula, Louisiana USA on Wednesday, October 13, 2004
I thought this book was pretty good. I like the idea of the narrator's being in heaven and telling what is happening on Earth to the people she left behind when she died. One of my favorite quotes from the book relates to its title, so I am not going to put it here now because I don't want to spoil that meaning for the other members. But I am writing it down and after the book has completed its journey, I will add it here.

Here is another quote I like:

p. 324 "I would like to tell you that it is beautiful here, that I am, and you will one day be, forever safe. But this heaven is not about safety just as, in its graciousness, it isn't about gritty reality. We have fun."

Thanks, kab113, for sharing this book with us!

I am leaving to go out-of-town tomorrow, so I won't be mailing the book out to the next person until next week.

this came in the mail today (good, cause i was just looking forward to it!) have already started on it and will be done quite soon, i think. such an interesting sounding story...

Journal Entry 13 by ahythloday from Richmond, Virginia USA on Monday, November 1, 2004
as i said, an interesting sounding story...it would have been a hit for me except for the ending. i liked the ending as regards the family..it was real..but the rest was a bit over-the-top cheesey. but no matter. it was a fun read, as evidenced by the fact that i read it in about one day!

will pass on to the next reader later this week!

Journal Entry 14 by hannahsc5 from Vancouver, British Columbia Canada on Tuesday, November 30, 2004
This book arrived over a week ago but I just finished it. I had read lovely bones before but as I enjoyed it so the first time I thought it was worth rereading. I think I read it this second time in just under four days.

I will pass in on early next week.

Apparently this book doesn't want to move on to Spain. It got returned to me last weekend in a plastic bag from the USPS with a sticker saying something like "sorry but your parcel was damaged in shipping." DAMAGED!?! The package and book were burned!!! I got my money for shipping back from the post office but am still trying to decide if I want to send this book on or wait until I fall upon another copy.

Journal Entry 18 by kab113 from Troy, Ohio USA on Thursday, June 30, 2005
The replacement copy of this book was sent by me again today. Please forgive the burns on the side. Hopefully it will get through the Cincinnati post office without catching fire again this time. Hannah, please PM me to arrange to have the first copy returned to me.

On its way by post to nona35. Enjoy!

I can't help but compare this fictional work with Sebold's factual account in Lucky. One is innocence, the other is experience.

The shortcomings previous readers have found in The Lovely Bones can be attributed to the fact that the narrator is, after all, a young child existing in "heaven," a place where all's well that ends well. In Lucky, Sebold provides another view, that of the adult who confronts the difficult, gritty reality of life on earth, where closure after trauma is anything but sweet or satisfying.

Arrived today (finally).I will read it as soon as possible.Thank you kab113 and okyrhoe!!!

Journal Entry 24 by nona35 from Syros - Σύρος, Cyclades Greece on Monday, December 12, 2005
I was part of a play this summer and one of its three small stories was about a son who had been killed during war.A few months later he visited his father and they talked a lot about the life after.Like Sebold, the son talked about "having fun" and how much he needed it.And also how sad he became when people he loved in Earth were sad about his loss. This book reminded me of that story.I found it well written but I didn't like the ending very much.Anyway, the book left for Canada this morning.Thank you kab113 for sharing! :-)

Journal Entry 25 by dantemiro from Vancouver, British Columbia Canada on Tuesday, December 27, 2005
Recieved from nona35 and started right away. It has been a while since I have wanted to read this book.

Journal Entry 26 by dantemiro from Vancouver, British Columbia Canada on Tuesday, December 27, 2005
Some parts I find very hard to read as the visualisations are dramatic. Right now I am about half-way through and I find this book touching and bittersweet. The author has done quite a good job of narrating how very hard it is for a family to cope with the sudden, unexpected and unnatural loss of a loved one.

Journal Entry 27 by dantemiro from Vancouver, British Columbia Canada on Tuesday, January 3, 2006
Great book! Hard to read as it was quite realistic. I am not sure I am satisfied with George Harvey's "devine" justice, I would have liked Detective Len to have caught up with him and asked him a coupleof key questions. Lindsey and Samuel's eventual union was a nice way to tie things together and allow the family to move on, but I still feel a pang for Susie as she got relegated to a memory.

Lovely Bones is ready to come home now.
