An autistic 15 year old boy suffers from Asperger's Syndrome and when his neighbour's dog has been found murdered he sets out to solve the crime using his incredible brain. What an unusual story. Every step of his journey into the investigation of the incident is formed mathematically and he writes everything down to form an ongoing book. You can really get into the mind of the boy and see things from his perspective. Everything is so black and white with no grey areas. He takes everything people say with such literacy. He says his book will not be a funny book but because of the way his mind functions it can be very funny.

It's here! And so fast! This book has traveled all the way from England to Nebraska (U.S.A.) and I promise it will continue on it's journey after I read it. I have read and heard so many good reviews of this book that I am really anxious to experience it for myself. Many thanks to MoJeDenUK for sending this on to me. I'll journal again after reading.

What a wonderful, unique, and simply fascinating book! I am so glad I read it. You know, sometimes after you read a book, you wonder why you read it and wasted the time! Not this one, it puts you into the mind of an autistic teenager, and you feel what it must be like to see everything in black and white, no shades of grey, and to have to concentrate so hard to control sensory overload. It should be mandatory reading so that we all look differently on those who are different than us. I know I will, from here on out. This book has the power to change the reader forever. I can see why it got the Whitbread Award - certainly not formulaic - it contains a highly unique style of writing. The main character, Christopher, emerges sympathatic while I found it difficult to feel very much sympathy at all for his parents - who do not handle this difficult situation well. Don't read this book expecting a complicated plot or story-line. It is basically just a slice of Christopher's life, and how he copes with it, over a period of time. Highly recommmended for those readers who want a book that encourages thinking and reflection.

My Mom recommended this book and passed this copy along to me. I found it to be very engaging and easy read. As a child psychologist, I found Mark Haddon's portrayal of the high-functioning autistic mind to be eerily realistic, and at the same time it also gave me a window into that mind that I did not have before working with these children. I recommend this book for any parent of a child with autism/Asperger's Disorder/PDD>

This book was passed along to me, and I read it while on vacation, finding it difficult to put down at times. I found myself laughing aloud more than a few times in response to its poignant humor. A very sensitive, empathetic portrayal of a teenager for whom experiencing empathy himself is quite foreign. Even so, his humanity still shines through despite him lacking this seemingly essential human quality.
