Booker Prize Winner 2001.
Atwood gives the reader a rich experience, layer upon layer of food for thought. Atmosphere ++, a strong anti-war message, women characters stand up to be counted. Clear, crisp prose. I once heard Atwood being interviewed and she said that as soon as she had thought up some situation or event that she considered quite outrageous, she had only to open a newspaper or listen to the news to discover that her outrageous idea was indeed fact and happening some where in the world. The Blind Assassin is a terrific read, take it on holiday with you.
