When seven year old Cedric Errol's father dies, he becomes Lord Fauntleroy, heir to the bad tempered Earl of Dorincourt. The Earl had disinherited Fauntleroy's father for marrying an American and refuses to meet the boy's mother, but Cedric's cheerfulness, generosity and affection win over his grandfather.

Then a wicked plot to deprive Cedric of his inheritance is discovered, and friends from America sail to England in an effort to thwart this fearful conspiracy.
