Journal Entry 1 by Special-K from Carseldine, Queensland Australia on Friday, July 12, 2002
Hong Kong, about to be absorbed into the People's Republic of China, is the setting for this fact-and-action-packed thriller, as a tough and moral policeman tries to solve a triple murder before time runs out. Hong Kong Chief Inspector Chan Siukai's investigation brings him up against all the usual suspects--corrupt British diplomats and businessmen, American gangsters, Chinese warlords--and a few unusual ones. John Burdett, who once practiced law in Hong Kong, knows where the bodies are buried--and his fast-moving scenes of violence add quite a few more.

Journal Entry 3 by Puphph from Happy Valley, South Australia Australia on Sunday, August 18, 2002
I found this book thanks to Special K behind the plaque in front of the Turkish cannon at St Kilda Barracks on Friday 16 August 2002. Just imagine, a book (free) in a plastic bag outside a military institution (albeit a now a largely historic one!) Fate, that's what drives us whether we believe it or not. I have often passed the St Kilda Barracks without so much as a single thought in years gone by. I was in Melbourne with my wife who was attending a conference & I was walking into Melbourne to meet my Mum & sister. Just an impulse but I could see the plaque & thought - 'I want to know what has been written on that'. Hence I found more than I bargained for. I have already read about a third of the book, by page 3, I was wwell & truly hooked. This author is in the league of le Carre, Deighton & others. Although not a pure spy thriller it's in there & the color & smell of Hong Kong is in my mouth & nostrils. I'm gonna love this book by the time I finish it! I will release this book into the wild in Adelaide where I live these days, & will post it's location by editing this one or, in a later journal titled 'Release' in this section. This has been a great experience for me & I will release many more books in the near future. Thanks Special K!
