Funny, heartbreaking and exquisitely detailed, Middlesex is the story of a hermaphrodite's coming of age (and gender) amid his/her extended Greek family in Detroit. The writing is risky, stylish, and entertaining. A true original.

First of all let me say that I have no idea why I didn't journal this book when I got it. And I've had it for YEARS!! Yes indeed, I've had it for years. Apologies to Grammarbroad who I'm assuming sent it to me. Now that that's out of the way, my review:
While this is a book about a hermaphorodite, it's more a family saga. I loved Lefty and Desdemona's story. So very sad and tragic with moments of supreme happiness. That happiness makes the sad parts sadder for some reason. Callie/Cal's story is important, but not the meat of the book as I thought it was. And not really as tragic as it could have been. The interlude in SF was seriously hopeless but somehow necessary. Overall, I give this a thumbs up as an interesting Greek family saga. Sending to my mom before releasing elsewhere.
