I’ve always been a bit fascinated by birds of prey, and if ever there is a display at a show I go and take a look. In fact after a comment that I’d seen a beautiful owl one morning on the way to work, hubby got me an owl experience at a local centre for a gift. It was actually meant as a bit of a joke after him seeing a comedy sketch about getting gifts after making a comment that you like something, but turned out to be a brilliant few hours.
Weirdly I was catching up with some BBC natural world a couple of weeks ago, one of them titled H is for Hawk - and yes it was about Helen and her Hawk, but not Mabel, it was about her second one and was quite a good watch. Which brings me to this book. I really enjoyed the parts that were about her and Mabel, and found it interesting how she dealt with the grief of losing her father. I was less keen on the repeated references to TH White and his book. A small mention here and there or a chapter dedicated to it would have been better than the repeated references in my opinion, but I do seem to be in the minority on this.
